At this point would Lesnar get them a Milly?
    You know Tony is desperate

      Anonymous

theyre legitimately never getting a milly ever again. Theyd need an increase of 1/4th their audience at this point to even approach it and Cena is the only possible person who could make that happen.
These numbers lately are extremely damning because theyre losing the dedicated audience they have at this point and nothing brings them back

        Anonymous

You'd need more than Cena to maintain that milly though, a one man show doesn't work considering the amount of time they're on the show for and with these stagnant ratings it seems like most people just don't want to watch AEW. Cena would have to rely on matches with guys like Kingston, Swerve or fricking Cassidy to keep things fresh and those would be considered credible opponents in AEW once he's had his handful of "dream" matches there. Also the fact that actual draws don't waste their time doing Meltzer's idea of 5 star matches which is apparently the only selling point AEW has.

The company was never going to amount to much with WWE around and the ratings just go down every year and the only thing keeping them afloat is Tony Khan's wallet. That and his fanbase who vehemently root for his shows/booking, which gives him false ideas of what is good and bad.

You brought up the roster. I was responding to that specifically, two sentences shouldn’t be hard to decipher

            Anonymous

I didn't bring up the roster because I wasn't that person. What I brought up was the same thing you should have brought up: that support staff/middle management/intermediaries are incredibly important for wrestling companies because they stop fricking mark wrestlers from driving wrestling promotions into the ground

            >Not true, you swap the wwe and aew rosters both ratings remain. It’s the brand, nothing more
Just saying "Well if Baseball Team X and Team Y swapped roster, they'd win the same amount of games", that's not an argument. Neither is trying to argue that the Yankees would draw just as many fans with the Athletics AA/A shit roster. The Yankees sign players specifically to WIN games, sell merchandise, get TV ratings, make headlines and fill stadiums. It's not a charity program. They aren't signing a bunch of players to record contracts because Websites like them a lot, they sign the baseball players that can help them reach their multiple goals.

AEW is failing because there is too much emphasis on what happens in the ring from bell-to-bell and not enough on what happens during all the other time. Kenny Omega and others have this attitude that it's better to have 10 highly-acclaimed matches per year instead of wrestling one average match once per week with 3-4 standout performances. This mentality is why AEW struggles to draw fans: you tune in and see Ospreay have an incredible match, then tune in the next week and he's.....in the ring talking not wrestling. Then you tune in the next week and he's in the ring talking and not wrestling. It's like this up and down the roster.

            Once again:
            >Not true, you swap the wwe and aew rosters both ratings remain. It’s the brand, nothing more
Complete hog shit and cope. WWE has systems in place to Meltzer-proof their operations, AEW treats Meltzer as a God. That's why one company is verifiably worth billions of dollars, and the other has to pay people to make up valuations.

            Anonymous

I agree about middle management but just in general be realistic in evaluations. Nobody gives a frick about Gunther or Damian Preist, swapping them to AEW wouldn’t boost ratings, it’s not a talent issue.

            Anonymous

Gunther is a much better entertainer and about the same wrestler he was a few years ago. Can you say the same for Omega? Orange Cassidy? Cesaro? Even Bryan Danielson is regressing as an all-around draw due to his insistence on wrestling non-AEW randos like Akiyama instead of mixing it up with Swerve, Darby, Caster, Jay White, Fletcher, Wardlow, people that actually matter to AEW's future. Bryan's doing a semi-retirement victory lap and what he's leaving behind is a bunch of talent still seen as indy talent because PEOPLE LIKE HIM won't put them over, he'd rather wrestle smark jerkoff matches. Moxley is falling into a similar pattern - he doesn't want to do jobs, so he only wrestles multi-mans or against bottom-roster talent. It's just not compelling television.

AEW is paying sports-entertainment money to have guys come out, wrestle a match and walk to the back. AEW cannot and will not make a profit being run like a super-indy. Whether or not guys WANT to talk into the mic, WANT to have a promo battle, WANT to be involved in sometimes ridiculous storylines, it shouldn't be up to them. As long as the checks are clearing, if you want AEW to keep existing, then fricking do what you're told.

            Anonymous

So your point is more about how a company uses & capitalizes on talent rather the talent itself. That’s a point more well taken. Gunther in AEW would be doing the same shit the guys you listed would be doing. Hence why I’m saying this lays at the feet of middle & upper management. You can do stellar things with middling talent if the office knows what the frick it’s doing.

            Anonymous

We're in both total agreement and absolute disagreement. kek

The point I was trying to make wasn't that AEW's management sucks or that WWE is too manicured, but something of a mix between the two: AEW gives their wrestlers too many liberties, and WWE wants to get the most they can out of their talents. AEW is gritty, WWE is processed. But the best steakhouse in the country can only do so much with Top Round, while a hole in the wall restaurant can cook a mean Filet Mignon.

WWE releases a lot of people that make you say "Why the frick would they cut _____? He's awesome!" - it's because that person doesn't fit into the plans (factions, mid-card, house shows, male-female split of TV time, etc) moving forward. And a lot of talent end up in AEW, not strictly because AEW offered more money, but because they want to do more wrestling and focus less on memorizing scripts, "becoming" a character, and so on. Guys just want to go out and wrestle and leave the other stuff out of it, I get it.

AEW is the company with all the room and opportunity to transform, to really shake things up. But they can't have 135 "I just wanna wrestle" folks and not decline. It's not a personal indictment, they aren't bad people just because they can't do promos, but AEW needs more of a mix of talents and personalities if they want to survive. Mercedes, Okada and Ospreay are 3 excellent additions as long as they continue to be center stage and asked to do A LOT of carrying the company.

      Anonymous

For the last couple decades I think the smarks fooled themselves into thinking that indie and asiatic style wrestling could be massively popular with audiences, it’s just that WWE was the only game in town and Vince stubbornly stuck to his preferred style. Turns out Vince knew what he was doing all along, and that smark bullshit doesn’t draw.

Why do wrestling fans care so much about ratings and viewership. I don't see this for any other show or sport. Before the accusations start flying I am a WWE fan. I don't watch AEW. Why would I care how many people watch a show I don't watch?

It was an initiative started by AEW and it's media (Meltz, etc). They did not expect that Fhite would turn it into a meme.
            Gotta give E-Gods credit.
Those missing fans, the ones who peaced out of AEW, it was because they could no longer take the abuse. Or they agreed with the anti-AEW sentiment.

All I'm saying is, AEW gets "No Milly?" because Fhite did that! E-Gods are the most powerful force on the internet. When we tell our peers to turn away from AEW, they do exactly that.

Anyone that wants to see WWE is just going to watch WWE so I don't know why Tony Khan is so insistent on trying to make AEW an identical product to WWE. Once again starting with a promo instead of a match, another show full or promos promos with most of them being the same stuff we've heard already for weeks, heatless championship matches shoved into the show, and completely nutless Dynamite main event with PG WWE brawling and comedy hijinks, and even going as far as to sow the seeds for a three hour show just like WWE. No one who was watching AEW from the beginning or the indie revolution that sparked the fire wants to see this shit.

Because Tony is a dumb mark who happens to be rich enough to be able to literally buy himself a wrestling TV show.
You could replace Tony with anyone from the audience as booker and nothing much would change. He has no experience or training or knowledge of how to run a wrestling organization. He wasn't tutored by a father, or close friend how to run things. He's a dude who booked e-feds like any other nerd, and his dad gave him a real life version of it.

Tony IS the problem, it's been clear for over 2 years now, all he has to do is hire ANYONE with any kind of experience as a booker/writer no matter how bad their reputation in the business. There is a reason basically everyone believes Vince would be rivaling his (formely) own promotion if he was booking the show.

Rampage/Collision are almost a curse, 3 hours that aren't a proven ratings draw, unlike Dynamite which is a desirable show
If AEW shops Rampage/Collision to another network, they won't command much (even though they should)
If AEW shops Dynamite to a bigger network, Rampage/Collision will get a poor deal from WBD

Pulling the plug entirely on WBD is risky but may be necessary to get max value for all 5 hours of content
Perhaps Paramount+ could be a player - and AEW could have 5-6 PPVs on Showtime and "the big 4" on regular PPV only........worth considering

But you're right about all their other shows. Too much content, maybe? If AEW Dynamite was the ONLY weekly show, maybe they'd get a milly easily every week? Idk. Tony has everyone from Ambrose to Jake The Snake and he can't put together a decent card if his life depended on it.

He doesn't know the value of a dollar. He's a out of touch rich frick who doesn't even know how many gallons of milk he could buy with the money he's paying them.

I wonder if you are looking at yourself and thinking "is concern trolling over talent's wages the best cope I have against AEW?"

Wtf is concern trolling? Nobody is listening to your shit when you come out with terms like that

I'm more worried about all the b***hing and complaining today. Slidegays were working overdrive.

Why can't AEWcucks stay away from this place for one single day? Do they really worship us E-Gods that much?

      >Why can't AEWcucks stay away from this place for one single day?
I see AEW fans as n*ggers and compare it to Little Rock (desegregation) back in the 40s.
Nobody wanted black students in their schools. But blacks worshipped whites and just wanted to be near them. So they invaded every white space they could, even bathrooms! And now trannies are invading bathrooms! Can you not see how this all started???

Further proof that Tony is repeating every mistake WCW and TNA did. At record pace I might add. Flooding your roster with Exfed guys is cringe.

The abandoning and immediate re-making the aew rankings/tunnels made me cringe. All they need now is a 6 sided ring and I'd swear that Tony was just Dixie dressed in drag.

AEW fans, I have a question: when girls (Dixie) dress as guys(Tony), is that considered "drag"?

AEW Titan here. F2M transitions are called "delusional".

I unironically think AEW would be in so much better shape right now if Tony booked 2021 the way he is booking now. He pissed away the spotlight in 2021 by booking nothing matches every show.

I don't watch AEW, never have, so take this for what it's worth: competent booking cannot save AEW

As a brand, the honeymoon is over and the ratings have plateaued - the only thing that could save it is hiring Vince McMahon

Short of that? AEW is a dead brand.

He's still booking nothing matches every show.
