2005 still had wrestlers with star powers like Choshu, Fujinami, Chono, Liger, Sasaki, Suzuki, Lesnar and Norton. Inoki was at least still showing up to cut a promo or shill PRIDE, K-1 and IGF. Albeit dimeless at the time, but Tana and Nakamura were there, too. What did NJPW 2024 have so far?

Agreed. There were some high points in the oft overlooked "dark days" of early 20's NJPW... but Lesnar was not one of them. He was entirely unmotivated, lazy and selfish. Then he left with the belt and forced Inoki and Co. to jump through hoops to get it back.

The roster is better than it has been in a long long time. Just none of the new guys have been built up yet. They have 4 new top guys whereas they have had one forever top guy that no one liked and Naito for the past 10 years, with some guys grabbed from other companies to pad out the dismal roster. It is really sad that their top gaijin is Finlay and that leaves fat Western marks with no one to self insert as but pandering to weird IWC incels is a low priority for every business not named AEW.

            Anonymous

This is just a ridiculous assessment. The current roster is the same as last year... but now without some draws. The young guys you point to were here last year and they potentially were going to get more time to develop under veteran hands like Okada. The shit pile of mediocre gaijin bums were still there last year but at least they had Ospreay bringing the curve up slightly. The older guys were still kicking last year, whereas now they're really falling apart.

You can't possibly say the roster in 2024 is better than 2023 because... it's the same with LESS talent. Literally.

...and 2023 was crap too. There's too many mediocre gaijin, the young guns haven't had nearly enough development, the factions are beyond stale, the veterans are barely making it through matches, and the "Top" guys aren't over. It's shit.

            Anonymous

Sad to see that you can't read.
They have 4 guys being built into stars.
They lost the permanently in the main event guy who never made any difference to their native business. Oh no, the horror. Ospreay was really popular but he had hit his ceiling and his faction are dimeless.
Within a year, all 4 of the young guys should be built up. Sanada is built up. Evil is getting built up. Finlay is also there, I guess.
The roster is great. Just none of them are established as a top guy and that is entirely due to NJPW relying on stealing top guys from other companies themselves and feeding everyone to a singular top guy who was never very popular. This is a much healthier situation to be in, long-term, and the roster itself is great. You're being a fat mark and crying because no one is Roman Reigns.

            Anonymous

Idiot. I specifically pointed out that all 4 of those unestablished talents were there last year AND would have benefited from going over the Ace. Now they continue on the path that was already underway but without an Ace to challenge and overcome. Every generation that had a top guy to go over lead to a better era in general. The Muskateers going over Fujinami, Choshu and others. Nagata, Tenzan and Kojima got to defeat Chono, Sasaki, and Muto. Tanahashi and Nakamura had to eat shit for a while because the top guys either abandoned ship or were too banged up to really matter. Now the 4 have to find a way to establish themselves against... Sanada, and Evil. Naito has been carrying 10x his weight for so long and now he's going to have to do it again for the young guys? Good luck.

Nobody mentioned Roman Reigns pal. We're talking about wrestling, not whatever dogshit HHH and Dog Wanker are crapping out.
