For the longest time I thought ice hockey pucks were made of iron.

For the longest time I thought ice hockey pucks were made of iron. I was impressed by the toughness of players and especially the goalie

So field hockey balls are made out of fields?

How do Americans even watch that sport? it's fricking impossible to follow. Or do they just use it as an excuse to go and stuff their fat faces on arena food?

just look where the players are going

A player recieving the puck has a deliberate preparatory motion that's easily spotted.

This means when you know where the puck is. It's easy to see where it's being shot towards, and who is receiving it.

When it is not in posession, there is a battle for it, and its exact location isn't needed especially in the case of duels along the boards where players knock the puck around with skates

I can't tell if this opinion is real or a meme. It's easy to tell what's going even if you lose sight of the puck for a moment and you don't have to see every frame of the puck flying towards the goal after a slap shot

you don't even need to actually see the puck to know who has it if you're familiar with the game. if the ball was made invisible in a footy broadcast would you have a hard time working out who's in possession? everyone is adjusting position in a way where you can clearly tell who has the ball/puck if you're not a casual

business idea: pay to be able to view the ball on tv in major leagues, invisible ball for ad-supported tiers

It's gotta be a meme. Players look different when they're holding the ball/puck. Different stance, different gait, different silhouette, etc. And the defense is constantly reacting to its presence. You're not watching the puck/ball anyway. You're watching men duel. No matter which sport you watch, this is a universal concept.
