Mallorca really is full of Germans now, hardly any Brits about anymore. I've been going for 20 years (since I was like 8) and was there the other week, it is so heavily germanic now.

does it lessen your enjoyment of the place?

Thats because brits got outpriced, middle class english are much worse off now
The average chav cant afford to go to the balearics anymore so they go to the cheaper parts of spain like Benidorm or the Canaries

Manacor kind of looks like a Caribbean fort which is kind of cool, but you finish visiting in half a day. The place is nice if you have a boat, if not it is a lot of driving into very tiny beaches

Kinda feels this way tbh, the £££ to holiday in Mallorca has definitely gone up and it is not so much the cheap as chips package destination it used to be and has become more middle class and richgay. The place we've been going in Mallorca for 20 years has had so much money pumped into it in that time and is way, way more upmarket than it was.

I don't know what your definition of "middle-class" is (lower-middle class Barratt Home dwellers need not apply) but this kind of place was always chav central. Package holidays* are chavvy. Plebs

Whereabouts in Mallorca do you usually go? Im a bong/Hispanic mutt and i moved to Palma some months ago. crazy amounts of tourists here right now, there is a lot of nordics, dutch and german but also a good amount of brits.

        Anonymous

Bay of Palma so Palma itself and then all the little seaside towns and ports that stretch over the Magaluf. It's a real spread of places with huge variations in how expensive it can be. But have noticed that the really pricey parts (Puerto Portals etc) which used to have lots of middle class and rich brits in them are now really german.

          Anonymous

Interesting. I haven't been to Puerto Portals but been to Palmanova a few times as the beaches and the sea there are a lot better than in Palma. I've been been to some rich towns like Deía and Valldemosa and a couple others like Puerto de Soller and Alcudia. I find the island is generally pretty expensive compared to mainland Spain and I know within Palma centre itself the prices can vary substantially. A coffee might cost 2EUR in one place but just down the road it will cost 4EUR. same with beer. Palma centre comes across as fairly high class reasonably wealthy city to me. Lots of beautiful nordic tourist girls and expensive designer shops, nice buildings, charm. The outskirts of the city look different though and places are cheaper.

Palmanova beach is probably the best on the island tbh. Palmanova itself used to be like a diet Magaluf but it is just a family friendly beach town for brits/dutch/germans now, a lot less seedy than it used to be.

You should check out Sant Elm, Port d'Andratx, nice little port towns they are. Puerto Portals is worth a visit as well if you fancy a drink where the millionaires seem to be congregating these days. You can get the bus there from the central terminal in Palma very easily.

Not been to Deia and Valldemossa for years tbh, tend to stay very coastal when I visit now but there are a couple of amazing restaurants that are cheap as frick up in the hills.

for sure we will probably be the worst tenants you can get, alongside non first worlders who probably steal everything in the accomodation.

but for us, we want other bongs there so we can get drunk, have a bit of banter and then shag/fight eachother. these cheap holidays just arent the same vibe when its all foreigners. when you go to a place like that its like everyone who went there went for the same reason and its known as a place for that kind of degen holiday for brits.

Northern Spain is relatively cheap (in terms of hotel prices, not necessarily food prices) and it's warm in summer (outside of summer it's among the rainiest regions in Europe tho)

Very comfy as well, nice people and lot to see.
And while it does get warm, it's usually not as scorching hot as it gets in Southern Spain.

Beaches on the north of the peninsula are shit tier.
The region is gorgeous with a lot to see, but if you want to go to the beach the best region is the southern ones. Id day from Figueira da Foz to the south, in the Atlantic Coast. On the Med side i do not know.

Many Germans from 15-35 years old live in a constant circle of Mallorca vacations and waiting/working for the next Mallorca vacation. It's actually a very nice island but most of them do nothing but drink beer or - even worse - Sangria and listen to abhorrent music. There is an entire music genre dedicated to Mallorca vacations (Ballermannhits), please don't check it out. Lately Spaniards begin to get more and more pissed off by their presence it seems.

I wish there was a middle ground between what we have now (high prices that make it impossible for locals to live in their own town, where they most likely work in the tourism sector) and just being this aggresive towards tourists who like it or not pay our wages and bills and bring cute foreign girls

Now is actually the last summer that you can travel into the EU before EES & ETIAS get implemented starting next year.

Afterwards you're going to have to give your fingerprints and an image of your face to EU bureaucrats if you want to enter the EU as a non-EU citizen.
