I come from a small village with about 350 people. The nearest professional club is about 120km's away as the crow flies, and from a part of the country we consider rivals. The other pro clubs here in Norway I have no sort of connection too, though it's cool to see Glimt do so well.
I support my "local" hockey club, from a city about an hour and a half drive away from here, even though I don't really feel any local connection to them either.
So I'm not really ashamed of being a Liverpool fan, even though it's kind of a stereotype. But my dad, my uncle, most of my great uncles and my grandfather are all Liverpool fans, so that's the way it is, the way I was raised.

I don't care about not supporting a local club if you don't have one or you're watching another league. What I care about is just picking a winning club, it shows a complete lack of character and is a sign of a low born individual (3rdie immigrants all do this).

my local team is in the italian fourth tier, and the stadium is close to where my family used to live. i could go watch my team play if i wanted to, i just haven't yet.

the problem is that teams in the fourth and third tier are very financially volatile, so the probabilities of seeing my local team do well or even promote to just the serie c would be very low, the competition is already fierce there, and promoting to serie b is nigh impossible.
