he is only "great" due to the Stats

What I'm saying is that if you look at the stats, this guy is at the top, sitting at the big table with Messi, Pele, and Maradona. But when you actually watch him play, there's a huge discrepancy, and purely based on his style of play, without considering stats, he's less than Zidane.

Let's give some examples. Statistically, he's the top scorer in Champions League finals, and you might say that's awesome. But if you look at the 2014 final, he has a goal and an assist. I invite you to see how they happened. His goal was a penalty in the 120th minute to make it 4-1. That means he just padded his stats but didn't do shit because Atletico needed to score 2 goals in 30 seconds to tie and 3 to win. His assist is harder to find, but it's in a highlight video of that final. It was basically a meaningless backward pass to Marcelo, who made a great run and scored a banger, and he got an assist out of nowhere.

Statistically, he was crucial for Euro 2016, but in that Euro, he only scored against crap teams in the group stage and one against Wales in the semis. Wales is a country with 50 farmers plus Bale, and they got to the knockout stages by luck, finishing 3rd in their group. Normally, finishing 3rd would put you in tougher brackets, but he had ridiculous luck with the opponents he faced, and in the final, when he finally played a strong team, he left the game, and Eder saved his ass.

He's the top scorer in the Euro, but what they don't tell you is that Platini, the second top scorer, did it in one Euro, while he did it in five.

So, if you look at the stats, he's an incredible player, competing to be one of the best in history. But when you watch him play and dig deeper, the whole narrative falls apart, and you see he's just a Hugo Sanchez with a lot of luck.

    >he is only "great" due to the Stats
    And Messi isn't?
Friendly reminder Messi scored more goals in one season, one year, and has more G/A points all seasons except 2007/08 and 2014/15 and so on

Messi is great because of stats.

Be real have you watched Cristiano between 07-14? I watched enough games of the names you mentioned and non of them bar Pele and Messi looked more capable on the pitch than Cristiano in his 20s.

Every time I watch Ronaldo goals it seems like he only just stands inside the box and waits for his teammates to do all the job

You are right, I have came to the same conclusions. That's why we have a very solid Big 3:

    1. Messi
    2. Pelé
    3. Maradona

Then a huge a gap and then the rest with Cruyff, Di Stefano, Ronaldo Nazario, Zidane, Ronladinho, etc.

This is utter bullshit and anyone who watched him play in his prime (anytime before 2015) knows it. He was never as talented as Messi, true, but he is undeniably one of the best players ever and the things he was doing have not been replicated by any other player. The closest thing we have to prime Ronaldo is Mbappe and he is a very poor, less skilled imitation.

How is Messi any different? A majority of his goals from his 2012 record come from Liga farmers and he didn't win anything that year, most of his 2022 WC goals were penalties too

South Americans will never rate a European player, you see this in the goat discussion where someone gets knocked down if they didn't win the WC and if they did it's attributed to a team performance because there isn't a culture of sucking off one player and acting like he's the sole reason they won here as strongly as they have
Hell I don't think highly of Mboopi but if he was south american we'd be hearing about his WC hattrick for years
