Meltzer can’t cope with the fact that a company literally built to appease him, with all his favorite wrestlers booked how he wants, is failing. It’s damning the Meltzer mentality.

The entire smark identity is built around thinking you can book a show better than the person who's actually booking it (Vince). There are very few adults who are fans of wrestling and wrestlers the way people are fans of baseball teams.

It’s even worse than that. It’s doing worse financially than tna and 1999/2000 wcw combined

In early 2022 he was saying that AEW was massively up yoy (due to nxt changing nights but of course he didn't say that he just said it was growing) and that they would pass Raw if they keep that growth up (they didn't lol)

Dave goes in these stupid loops every 3-4 months when AEW is doing particularly bad.
    >Uh, I'm actually really critical of AEW, but they're also very successful
    >how are they successful
    >Well, um, uh, Cornette said they'd be out of business after a year and they're a solid 2nd place
    >AEW never makes money and they're only still in business because Tony has an endless checkbook
    >Uh, ya see, its, well, Vince had a rich father too. And uh, ya know
its as boring at this point as any of the doom and gloom podcasters he whines about. AEW sucks and it's just TNA 2.0 no one gives a shit and never will. It's over.

can you explain why uber is worth $160 billion?

but by uneducated and jobless wrestling fan logic those numbers show it's a colossal failure, on par with AEW...?

Because most money in the world is ethereal and all of these corporate estimations are based not on actual revenue or profit, but on potential market growth because the world is a clown economy and has been for at least 70 years

Because they rightly predict that the service uber provides (Taxi, food delivery, etc.) is literally never going away and will always be in demand for every normie on the planet so they are betting on Uber to be the market leader and once all the numbers settle will be very profitable.

What does that have to do with a 2nd rate wrestling company that is getting trounced by a world famous mega brand like WWE in a very niche entertainment field like Pro Wrestling. No sane investor would look at where AEW is and feel good about the future. WWE isn't going away and it puts a hard ceiling on AEW's potential earnings.

it's actually doublethink to believe that WWE has a great future but AEW which is the exact same product using the same business model has a grim future

tony has already said AEW will be very profitable after the next media rights negotiation this year.

uneducated wrestling fans see a business not making money on day 1 and declare it a failure that needs to close immediately

you will never own a home.

AEW could be profitable now if he trimmed down his roster

            Anonymous

the fact that he ISN'T trimming the roster or doing any notable cost cutting while making big money signings should be a sign that the money is a non issue at this point

            Anonymous

the money has never been an issue ever
The biggest danger to AEW isn't not getting a new tv deal it's Tony Khan getting bored of being a wrestling promoter and moving onto something else

            >Tony Khan getting bored of being a wrestling promoter
            LMAO
he's more into wrestling than 99.99% of the people who have ever been in the business.

that said, money WILL be an issue with the next TV rights. whatever amount he gets is what he will be budgeting around. spending 5 years building a brand with losses is fine, but going another 5 with losses is a bit much. he makes tons of money from his other businesses, so he doesn't need gigantic income from AEW, but he is going to make a profit from it in the end. he's a businessman.

            Anonymous

Only if you live in a world with no bad business decisions. He also painted himself into a corner trying to be the anti-wwe nice guy promoter so he can't ruthlessly cut 30% of the roster like the bean counters are telling him to.

        Anonymous

They can cover their cash losses through the issuance of stock, which is constantly going up because the company is growing. It's normal to run at losses when you're trying to grow. AEW is shrinking, so I don't know what their excuse is.

That's an annoying part about Dave. He'll stick to one point, no matter how long ago it was, and use that as the basis of his argument. If people criticize him for not fact checking shit and publishing stupid shit like Shibata having his brain removed or acting like that Triple H/Rock video was recent, he'll point to the one time someone complimented him about begin the best wrestling journalist. If Cornette is brought up, anything he said is invalidated because Cornette said AEW would go out of business and it didn't.

      Anonymous

The only thing Cornette was wrong about was how long Tony is willing to run AEW at a big loss. He's right that it's not a viable company but it survives because Tony is keeping it alive anyway.

AEW has twice the talent that TNA had, but draws worse than prime TNA.

At this point have Russo run the show. It can't get any worse, and we might see something worth watching since Punk's departure

When is Tony gonna learn that he already has the marks. He has Dave saying all AEW matches are the best in the history of the business for years and they still can’t grow. Dave can't admit that he wanted Japanese style wrestling to come to the US and supersede WWE style because that's what he grew up with. To admit AEW isn't succeeded would be failing his own ideology for what makes "good wrestling"

it is silly to call it a failure. it's the clear runner up promotion but it's doing better than Impact/TNA ever did and dynamite is about to overtake nitro in # of episodes. that said, WWE has more interesting stories at the moment.

vince cutting the shitters knowing tony would scoop them up really did work(cole, o'reilly, keith lee, etc...) it's insane to me that tony hired the guys he beat in the wednesday night wars
