I don't get this guy, if he wasn't a fan of WWE's PG program and he's an outlaw mudshow deathmatch fan, why sign with them in the first place? I liked him in WWE he had the hair and the theme song and everything..

it wasn't just about pg, he probably would've stayed if they didn't blatantly value him so much less than roman and seth

        vince chose roman
        hunter chose seth
he didn't get chosen by anybody
that's kind of sad actually they could've done more with the shield thing

WWE should have kept ECW around and just made it their Hardcore division, and had Dean be the main star. Be the TV-14 the fans want, have it exclusively on the network/peewiener give it a 2 year run and see if it works out. Keep it a small venue thing like NXT, and this is where you go as a last resort, if you flounder here, your cur.

They want the entire brand to be PG. They don't want you to see any WWE affiliated ANYTHING that isn't WWE. Vince spent decades as a professional wrestling promoter pretending not to be a professional wrestling promoter to make advertisers see WWE as a legit brand and not just hillbilly soap operas and vulgar/brutal content.
Obviously it's all hypocritical BS but they want you to see their giant shitty logo and think family-friendly entertainment company. A hardcore show means little Timmy's mom won't take him to the shows and buy him merch

?? I don't watch AEW. I think WWE is absolutely doing the right thing keeping everything PG. I'm also cynical about it because I know it has very little to do with any sort of family values and everything to do with calculating business decisions

Vince is gone, they want to go back to TV-14 which in todays climate is less showing off women and more violence, and bet they make the change when they move to Netflix

Nah, Netflix is paying for the WWE as it is with its current audience. It would be really strange to back up the Brinks truck for broadcasting rights then have them change anything

Around the time of the merger going down, there was phrasing from TKO that they considered WWE to be the Happy Meal and UFC to be the Big Mac (or something along those lines) in terms of company synergy. Anything can change but that should be the direction for a while.

That's a great comparison. I think you'll see the occasional segments with guys like Rock or ring mics at PPVs leaning into slightly more explicit territory but the days of chair shots to the head spurting out blood and Sports Entertainment Extreme are going to be sorely disappointed

Being on Netflix shouldn't make a difference either. While they do have some edgy content they also have a massive childrens content suite that completely dwarfs it.

You know HHH wants to but I'm not sure he has the stroke. He has to settle for making most of the "Very special ppv song" metal.
I also stopped watching for a few weeks and just popped on yesterday's episode because this thread made me think of it. How many Samoan goons are there in the bloodline now?? They'll actually have a baseball team of these guys before Roman even comes back

Because every wrestler deep down wants to be in WWE. They pay more, the wrestlers grew up watching it and wanting to be the next Hogan/Stone Cold.

I mostly agree. I think he's played up the deathmatch garbage matches in AEW to "prove" he's legit and WWE isn't. I also think his ceiling was always going to be lower than Roman and probably lower than Seff because HHH loves him, so he WAS less valuable than the other shield guys
Plus his hairline was migrating at rapid speed and that kills the "attractive but crazy guy" thing teenage girls like

I like him but he is the Jannetty and that's the way it should be. He just doesn't have Roman's looks or Seth's athleticism, and less charisma than both of them

WWE was the only show at the time that could throw large amounts of money around, get your money, then go back to taking weed whackers to the stomach, he just got lucky billionaire son wanted to have real figures, and lets them do basically what they want

Everyone who fails with what they're given blames creative. Foley is a deatmatch legend. In WWE he was goven a gimp mask, a tube sock, and tie-dye, and he got them all over.

His problem was that the company was too corporate and shit. Wasn't nearly as bad as it was when he left in 2011 when he signed. Still had some grit back in those days.

He chose the ez mode of wrestling instead of the WWE grind. Now he gets to be a fat alcoholic and work slow plodding matches for a smaller fanbase but a fanbase that will treat him like he is doing the best work of his career when he objectively isn't. He did his best work in WWE and no one will admit that and they point to the gas mask gimmick and pretend that's all he ever did.
