Is Judo the best single martial art in terms of self defense?

When it comes to street fights, almost everyone can agree that being on the ground is bad considering the possibility of things like glass being on the ground and someone else coming up and kicking you in the head. Therefore wouldn't the best martial art for street fights be one where the whole goal is to slam your opponent into the ground without falling yourself? Especially because while a person would expect punches and kicks from their opponent, something like a hip throw would likely catch them by surprise

They should invent some kind if modern judo, like they did with jiu jitsu. Nobody wears a fricking kimono around outside, so a big portion of judo throws are useless in real life situations.

That's weird. Isn't it just mma then but without ground work? I've never heard about such thing honestly

From what I've heard it focuses on sambo as in the wreslting part of it and just adds the possibility of some basic striking. I think it's for guys who want to do mma but like to stay with their sambo base. I live in a shithole (shymkent if you know it) so it's possible that the trainers are just morons

There is striking in combat sambo. It's the sport sambo where they just grapple . So it's basically no gi sambo as you said before

Literally fricking moronic, every single throw can be performed without a gi with minor modifications, vast majority of judo gyms have no gi days.

Judo more like an educational general purpose combat sport and as such highly recommendable. Don't care about beating people up.

judo is pretty useful in general, especially in a street clothes(jacket/hoodie wearer) situation, but most of the time knowing a single martial art isnt necessarily gonna bulletproof you against getting fricked up by some drunk/schizophrenic/very upset moron
in an ideal world you learn something that teaches you to strike well, something that teaches you to grapple well, and something that teaches you to exit the kind of situation that leads to a street fight before it happens, because the chance of accidentally killing someone/getting killed is much higher than you think, especially if you're throwing someone who isnt trained to take a fall onto concrete, the skull can shatter more easily than you think and lead to manslaughter charges even if it was self defense(which is stupid, but thats the way the laws are in a lot of places)

If you want a shortcut to knowing how to win a streetfight against most guys (so untrained or low experienced martial artists), you just have to learn how to bumrush. Just send a flurry of kicks and haymakers, most people have no idea how to deal with that. Even some very experienced martial artists wouldn't know what to do.

Remember, a streetfight is often over under half a minute.

The armed forces teach you to avoid hand-to-hand combat as far as possible. If necessary, blocks, kicks and punches are useful, before running away or shooting or stabbing someone.
