Your barometer for world class is pretty low if Barella qualifies

If you can walk into most of the CL-contending teams as a starter, you are world class.

Half of Italy moved out of Italy

Demographics. Italy is the second oldest country by average age in the world. They simply don't have enough young people playing football. This is also a problem in other European countries but France, England, Holland etc. have imported bbc's to play for us. Italy is hesitant to do this.

The majority of the England team is white though. The only fully black player in the first XI is Saka, then two mutts in Walker and Bellingham

This is right, Italy doesn't have enough young people anymore to produce top athletes
Their birth rate is considerably lower than the English one, I think Italy is close to like 1.3
So, 6 adult women will only produce 4 children in their lifetime

The rest of Europe has low birth rates too, below replacement, but not so low. And they have more immigrants "ngubus" as replacement.

Something a bit similar happened in Argentina. Argentina used to have a majority of non Spanish surnames in the national team, mostly Italians, and had no problem producing great 9s that were like 6 feet 1 in height, like Batistuta or Crespo. Now the team is majority Spanish surname, more native-mestizo, and shorter. Surprisingly we won a lot with the new team, and didn't win anything with the Batistutas, Cambiassos, Zanettis, Mascheranos etc

COVID year. The funny thing is that Sudacas/Ngubus have always been our weak point beside Retegui and Balotelli.

Germany somehow made it to the 2002 wc final during the worst period for German footy ever (up to that point). these sort of lucky streaks can happen every now and then

yeah, about that... Spain and Italy were refballed in the ko phase of 2002, so Germany "only" had to play against South Korea.

Germany even needed help to beat the USA in that WC (GErman handball on their own goal line = no call).

Serie A stopped being a relevant league (and consequently a source of reliable Italian talents) ever since Calciopoli has been fabricated, all to make sure one particular team could grab their share of silverware after decades and billions of nonsensical squandering.

The national team was supported by a strong national league. The bulk of it was sourced by AC Milan and Juventus but once they went to shit due to corruption and mismanagement, it was over for them.
