NASH SHOOTS ON GOLDBERG

During the latest episode of his podcast, “Kliq This,” two-time WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash delved into the controversial decision to end Goldberg’s undefeated streak in WCW. He explained that despite Goldberg’s immense popularity, there was a shift in audience sentiment, particularly in regions like the northeast where Goldberg began facing boos instead of cheers.

>“Like if we’d go to the northeast they were booing Bill,” Nash said.

>“It wasn’t like all of a sudden, it was like, ‘We have to beat Bill.’ It was like, ‘Bill’s starting to be the Yankees.’ Bill’s starting to beat the Yankees … nobody wanted the Patriots to beat the [1972] Dolphins f***in’ record.”

In case you need a refresher, Nash ended Goldberg’s legendary undefeated streak in the main event of WCW Starrcade 1998, however the match didn’t end without stirring some serious controversy. Unlike conventional clean pins, this victory was brought about by outside interference, as Goldberg fell victim to a cattle prod.

WCW in 98 was fricking awful and the start of them falling off a cliff. Ratings actually went up after Goldberg lost

I think had they gave Goldberg his win back in a rematch for the strap at the 01/04/99 Nitro or SuperBrawl when people still cared it would've been better.

Ratings actually went up after Goldberg lost
Yes, because people were anticipating for him to get his win back. Nitro scored its highest ratings when he was champion. Then once it became about Hogan vs Flair again, ratings started going down to 4s, and eventually 3s. By the time Nash vs Goldberg happened on pay-per-view again people no longer cared anymore.

Nash ending the Streak with the cattle prod wasn't by itself terrible, the reason it was such bad booking is that it was almost immediately followed up with the Fingerpoke.
Nash points to himself beating Bill as being fine because he/Wolfpack were over, they then fricked that away like morons to go back to muh nWo, so that overness wasn't used or worth shit.

      Better options:
      >DDP ends it at Halloween Havoc 98
      >Bret ends it early 1999 to rebuild him after treading water in midcard for a year, either as a heel with the plate gimmick or face with a rollup
      >Rebuild Raven & his Flock, he ends it late 98/early 99 with as many Flock shenanigans as possible, to transition the Flock to the main heel group while Wolfpac/Hollywood kill each other
      >Build up Scott Steiner, he ends it mid 1999 as the new hoss heel
      >Nash ends it via cattle prod etc. at Starrcade 98 but don't do the Fingerpoke

      >>DDP ends it at Halloween Havoc 98
This is where it should've ended. After this is when people were getting tired of the streak.

I started watching wrestling by watching WCW from the end of 1997 until it folded.

That's horsehit and he knows it.
The reason the streak ended is because Kevin Nash is a mark for himself.

If Kevin Nash was a mark for himself the fingerpoke never would've happened.

The fingerpoke allowed him to lose the title without jobbing to Goldberg.

        >Beat Goldberg
        >Then didn't lose to Hogan, he chose to give up the title.
That sounds like exactly what a mark for himself would do.

Nash did it because he wanted to feel like a man again after the incident that had happened to him 6 years earlier.

He's full of shit. They primarily stayed in the South during Goldberg's reign where he was still incredibly over (not to mention the west coast and midwest), with the exception of going to Connecticut once, Boston once, and New York twice. Thinking a guy needed his push nixed because of some alleged reactions from three cities in the Northeast is nothing short of moronation. The truth is that it was politics and Nash showcasing the power he just got at the time. Literally nothing more. Everything else is just cope.

The frick it wasn't, it's such a random weapon that doesn't make a loud sound in the arena in the era of monster chairshots. Anything that didn't bust Goldberg open or fricking explode would have been terrible idea and they went with one of the least impressive things to put him down. It might as well have been an electric razor

Goldberg should have held it for longer, he should have lost to Hogan and he should have decimated united NWO for good afterwards. And then he should have lost to a new face cleanly after people got bored of him.

It was right there and they didn't get a single part of it right.
