I'm willing to bet that point is kayfabe.
But if he's serious, there's other ways of getting heat than HoT levels of interference. And matches tend to be better without that type of thing.

Except New Japan, at the height of its popularity, didn't need "heel heat" to be successful.

How will strengthening ties with AEW help New Japan?

      Anonymous

None of what I'm about to say is meant to support AEW whatsoever. It's a garbage company with garbage wrestling.
Now that's out of the way, my speculation is that Khan really bailed New Japan out over the course of the pandemic. Unlike AEW and WWE, a lack of ticket sales really crippled them. They're probably still depending on AEW to some extent.
Given that, AEW sort of has leverage over them at the moment where he *has* to say stuff like this. I'll add that New Japan knows what it's doing better than Tony ever will and probably plans to flip the situation around on them at some point once they're back at full steam, much like they have done with every other partner they've had in their history.

okay but then explain this to me
if the pandemic really crippled them so hard that they would not have survived without aew helping them, how is it that companies like noah and ajpw are still around? those companies never had tony khan to save them and yet they seem to be doing no worse today than they were doing 10 years ago

Two things. First, Noah and AJPW would have lower overhead because they weren't operating at the scale of NJPW in terms of what they're paying talent or future venues they had booked. Gotta bring in money not to be crippled financially by the first and gotta fill shows not to be crippled by the second.
Second, Noah and AJPW weren't as reliant on overseas talent like New Japan. Losing access to that talent crippled booking, probably killing some long term stuff dead in the water.

            >Noah and AJPW weren't as reliant on overseas talent like New Japan
Weird. Every time I see a NOAH card theres hispanics and whites all over it

The company wasn't reliant on them right before the pandemic in the way that New Japan was reliant on Kenny Omega, Jay White, and Will Ospreay. Kenny left a year before the pandemic struck but New Japan was still working on its Western Expansion and had a number of Western workers it was building that suddenly couldn't enter Japan.

        >I'll add that New Japan knows what it's doing better than Tony ever will and probably plans to flip the situation around on them at some point once they're back at full steam
Please explain to me what that would look like practically.

New Japan wasn't always the senior partner in its relationship with RoH, but it certainly became that as years progressed.

            Anonymous

Okay. And how exactly would NJPW become the senior partner in the relationship with AEW and what would that look like?

            Anonymous

Pretty much roles reversed with AEW jobbing out talent on New Japan show instead of what we have now. Possible if AEW continues to bleed its fan base, loses its television deal down the line (won't happen this time around), and New Japan's following continues to climb back to pre-pandemic levels.

A pro-wrestling company should want less dependence on an outside company, not more, regardless of how much they might like them.
But financial circumstances are such that they're tied to the hip for the foreseeable future.

Rocky Romero lives near my house. I went to him and asked if all of this would actually bring NJPW more sucess. He said, "Yes, absolutely! Especially the 6th point". Then we chanted "Go Ace!" together over and over again.

I like to think that after that he invited you to form a new stable with him - Roppongi 5000 - and tried to sweet talk you into uniting the NJPW Strong Tag Titles with the AEW Tag Titles

I would have told him to go for the Never 6 Man Tag and the AEW Trios championships instead because neither of us can actually wrestle.

    >according to whom? You?
Yes, heaven forbid someone have a personal opinion, amirite. Not like we're all posting personal opinions are anything.
I personally think companies do best when their internal rosters are strong enough that they don't have to rely on outside companies. Which isn't to say that crossovers aren't fun as well and wonderful fan service, just that they work best when the relationship isn't lopsidedly in favor of one of the parties in question.
