Ronda buries Vince in her new book

>Our Fight by Ronda Rousey is the ex-Superstar's second book and is due to be released next month. The former WWE Women's Champion does not hold back in her take on the 78-year-old billionaire. In the memoir, Rousey calls McMahon the 'Emperor Palpatine' of wrestling, a nod to the Star Wars antagonist. She adds:

>"It’s hard sometimes to know where the evil, unethical, slimeball character of Vince McMahon played out for the cameras ends and the actual questionably ethical, many times sued, and multiple times accused of sexual misconduct Vince McMahon begins.

>"That blurred line between character and reality is a recurring theme within the WWE Universe.”

>As an athlete who redefined what women could do in the world of MMA, the treatment of women is understandably an important theme in the book. When discussing WWE's Premium Live Events, Rousey suggested that the ultra-conservative views of Saudi Arabia are something McMahon would like to replicate.
>"[PLEs are] held in major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia, as well as now twice a year in Saudi Arabia, a nation that restricts the rights of women in a way that I’m certain Vince McMahon wishes he could."

>While McMahon is lambasted in Rousey's memoir, that doesn't extend to everyone in the family. Rousey has much more positive words for McMahon's son-in-law Triple H.
>"In addition to being my in-ring WrestleMania nemesis, he is arguably one of the best professional wrestlers in history and one of the better people on the business side."

    More from the book:
    >Every week, wrestlers are given a call-time, usually six to eight hours before the broadcast starts. Weekly shows are held in NBA and NHL arenas or the occasional smaller city minor league venue or event center. You walk through a metal door into a cold, concrete, fluorescent-lit hallway indistinguishable from the city before. Sitting in chairs or standing next to doorways, event site security surround you in yellow jackets dotting the halls.

    >The same white paper makeshift signs are taped throughout, large black arrows pointing you in various directions. Each features big block text and an identifying icon. Catering with a knife, fork, and spoon. Doctor with a medical symbol. Gorilla with a gorilla.

    >Writers Room with an equal parts aspirational and delusional bust of Shakespeare. Production Meeting fittingly indicated by an empty conference table where no one is coming up with any kind of plan. Vince’s Office, which, in what seemed like a missed opportunity, is not designated by an inverted pentagram.

      >WWE loves to do well-produced video segments about the legacy of women within the organization, but the truth is women have largely been footnotes. For the longest time, they were relegated to serving male characters in a valet role, an overly sexualized supporting character that takes cheap shots when the ref isn’t looking. Over time, as the level of female talent grew and society as a whole started to shift, the organization gradually expanded the role of female wrestlers.

      >WWE bills itself as a sports entertainment organization, and just like in the mainstream entertainment industry, there was, by all accounts, a casting couch culture where men backstage in powerful positions pressured female talent for sexual favors in return for airtime. There were so many public accusations and scandals it’s hard to keep track, and more that I’m sure the WWE managed to sweep under the ring.

      >Women weren’t just being demeaned backstage, but center stage. Up until 2007, “Bra & Panties Matches,” where female wrestlers won the match by stripping their opponent down to her underwear, were an actual f*cking thing. Even after that gimmick was retired by WWE executives—I’m sure very reluctantly and with a lot of lamenting about political correctness—it was still clear that the organization placed more value on a woman’s physical appearance than her physical ability.

        >The Divas Era with its pink rhinestone butterfly title belt dawned around the same time. Women, while now portrayed as wrestlers, were still expected to look a certain way—think lots of makeup, little clothing, and huge boobs. It would take almost another decade, years after I proved women could be a huge combat sports attraction, before women truly started to get time in the squared circle (what diehards call a pro wrestling ring). And it was only after WWE was basically armbarred into it, following a global social media backlash to #givedivasachance after Divas were given a total of thirty seconds— less time than it takes most people to read this paragraph—for a nationally televised tag match.

        >Four women were given less time to collectively wrestle than every single man on the roster got for his intro music alone. Presented this information as a person outside of the wrestling world you might draw the conclusion that there is a troubling foundational sexist, patriarchal culture within the WWE. You would be right. I have nothing but respect for the female wrestlers who paved the way for women wrestlers today. And nothing but disgust for the amount of sexist, degrading bullsh*t they were put through.

how were rondas ppv buyrates again?

        Anonymous

Incredible. Not sure if you’re asking ironically or not but Rhonda was demonstrably a massive unrelenting draw on PPV. She outdrew Connor twice in back to back PPV’s (to be fair this was before/right as Connermania started) had almost identical numbers to Brock. When you add her buyrates to her name recognition she is one of the top 3 MMA stars of all time, maybe top 5 if you want to not give her credit. She’s practically the entire reason women are even fighting in UFC.

Just for kek’s she also outdrew 99 percent of WWE PPV’s ever broadcast and it’s not even close. Only the Rock vs Cena Wrestlemania did similar numbers to her.

Her biggest issue was she had no context for losing. It ruined her career in a way that it wouldn’t to most athletes. I don’t even like her but saying she wasn’t a huge draw would be a lie, possibly one of the only female athletes that has ever been a draw.

Maybe true, but probably not, and it doesn’t matter either way. A draw is a draw. Paige Van Zandt is better looking than Ronda on her worst day. Rose probably was too before she shaved her head. Miesha Tate is about as attractive as her. None of them were draws except Ronda. Being mildly attractive went hand in hand with looking like the Terminator out there. It was both. That’s why Cris Cyborg isn’t a draw because she’s a Brazilian hatchet wound. Ronda had 15 straight dominant finishes in MMA, half knockout half sub, almost all in round 1. Without that she’s Paige Van Zandt but autistic and half as hot.

      Women's sports DO NOT DRAW.

Pro wrestling is no different, despite how far it has moved away from a real sports presentation. Women's wrestling has never and will never draw money. Women can be MASSIVE draws, see Sable for a perfect example. But it only works if they're used as a gimmick/freak show style attraction (see: Chyna), as coomer bait (look at literally any thread on Fhite about women's "wrestling"), or as managers/valets involved in men's storylines (see: Miss Elizabeth or Sensational Sherri).

Ronda can b***h and moan all she wants, but women CANNOT compete with men, not just directly but also indirectly. Women's wrestling is a piss break or a side show or a change-of-pace segment to appeal to perverts. That's it. It never, ever works as a featured match. Every single time it's been tried it's only supported out of pity.

If they haven't done the bare minimum like a bikini contest (not a photoshoot), I do not want to hear them complaining about it. No woman has stepped into a WWE ring in a bikini since 2012. Anyone after this has never had to deal with anything remotely controversial.
There are like four women left on television today that have ever had to work a Bra and Panties match:
        >Natalya (last one in the WWE developmental system, has never b***hed about it)
        >Scarlett Bordeaux (indies)
        >Nikki Cross (UK indies, didn't even lose anything)

Just for kek’s she also outdrew 99 percent of WWE PPV’s ever broadcast and it’s not even close. Only the Rock vs Cena Wrestlemania did similar numbers to her.

Her biggest issue was she had no context for losing. It ruined her career in a way that it wouldn’t to most athletes. I don’t even like her but saying she wasn’t a huge draw would be a lie, possibly one of the only female athletes that has ever been a draw.

      >Ronda fought for 5 or 6 years and drew a milly+ buyrates on several occasions.
      >Hogan wrestled for 40 years and never once drew a buyrate that high

Ronda is reminding me of Goldberg, someone who was given everything in this business, and then gets pissy when they're exposed as not being able to get over when they're not being booked as an unbeatable monster.

Still, doubtless everything she says about Vince/Prichard/Laurinitis is true.

Look man, we all liked Goldberg when we were kids. Part of growing up is recognizing that the only thing he had was a look and some power. If he hadn't been protected by every single opponent and booker, he would have never drawn a singular dime.

Trips biggest mistake was being too loyal and not using blackmail and potential felonies to get Vince sacked a decade ago. Frick it, dig up some evidence that points to Vince having a hand in covering up Snuka's girlfriend being murdered and send Vince packing.

Her and Conor coming in back-to-back is pretty insane. That shit is fricking Austin+Rock tier of two stars aligning at the same fricking time.

She handled her KO terribly, but people really started overly dunking on her for no reason. Her biggest issue is never switching her coach and adapting her style. Once she lost, she thought it was over which is weird, because Conor got even bigger once he lost to Nate.

Shit, it's nothing training with a proper team couldn't have fixed.
