People are moronic, in the end the advantage is huge, besides, players that are onside ALWAYS get an advantage already if they are running and the defender is facing towards them. Offside is fine as it is, it's just that most footballers have bad off-the ball movement in general, both attacking and defensive-wise.

seems to favor attacking football so it looks good. they should test it.

No, because it's much fairer for an error to be called when the player's whole body PLUS 0.01 cm is ahead of the defender, than if he were just 0.01 cm ahead. And the objective of the rule was to improve the sport and its spectacle, not the rule itself; the rule has no intrinsic value

Does anyone ever think about how magical it is that we have third worlders from Brazil, Mexico and Turkey that write English so well on here?

I mean really think about it. How many Brazilians, Mexicans and Turks, out of the entire population can write English this well?

It has to be like the elite 0.0001% of third worlders who post here.

I get your point danebro but it's not that impressive when you think about it this way. To consume any sort of media outside your c**t, you're basically forced to learn English. Less forced, more so driven too. So basically anyone that isn't a normie just learns English to consume their animes or talk shit on forums.

There are more people here who understand English than you think, it's just that most don't work in their enunciation and usually stay in the Portuguese speaking bubble on the internet. Also, Spanish is seen as almost as valuable as English here despite being 10 times easier for us, so when choosing a second language, most people end up choosing Spanish

All Fhite posters had affluent upbringings with good educations. My parents worked for the EU and I grew up in Belgium, so you can bet I speak multiple languages. I even know a few words of Hungarian from your music.

The average Bong, however, cannot speak any foreign languages. I know a guy who said he spoke fluent French because he went to France and was able to buy cigarettes by pointing at them in the shop.

Everybody is wearing these gay bras now anyway, they should just install GPS tracker at a defined position in it and if the tracker of the attacking player is closer to the goal at the moment of the pass it should be offside. You probably can install some technology in the ball as well to exactly determine this moment.

Hockey offsides would fix the sport

      pls elaborate

        >pls elaborate
Hockey offsides are dictated by each team's blue line. It would be like drawing a thick line about 30 yard from the goal and forwards would not be able to receive a forward pass inside that 30y line from outside of it. Basically anything inside the 30y line is completely fair game though so if an attacking team is cycling possession in the attacking 3rd then no forwards can be offside. You could stick the 6'4" CF inside the 6y box screening the GK and as long as the possession doesn't leave the 30y line it's open season for attackers.

No way it would work without fundamentally changing the dynamic of sport like

This would be a good change if it only applies to reviews.

        [...]
I disagree. Hockey offsides would have been a good change 70 years ago but if they did it now it would change the sport on such a fundamental level that mass riots would occur.

says, but it would be extremely interesting to see it tried out just to see how much would change.

        Anonymous

football has to be the first thing to cross the line, once inside there's no offside, if the ball comes out everyone has to leave or they are offside.

          Anonymous

Yep like this anon shows. It would be like how the NHL removed '2-line-pass' rule back in 2004-05 and apply that to soccer. The current soccer rule is once you're inside the other teams half the offside rule applies, but under anon's diagram it pushes that "offside line" further down the pitch. Then if the ball gets cleared back behind that line all the attackers have to run back behind the new line to be onside again for the next attack.

It would be interesting as hell to see it trialed for the sake of it though.

Honestly the current offside law makes zero sense now that we're using VAR. It was deliberately strict because IRL linesman would usually consider two players that are almost level to be level and allow the goal. Being 1mm offside doesn't give you a meaningful advantage, and now that we have the technology to actually verify and overrule offside calls, it just ends up looking silly when you rule goals out for such a marginal infraction.

Those are the boundaries of the field of play, so it's different. Offside was a rule that was added later on to prevent goalhanging, penalising attackers that have their toenail offside goes against the spirit of the rule.

If you did that, the best tactic for defence would be for all the defenders to stand right by the goal, and this would make the sport much less exciting. You are not the first person to think of this, but it won’t work.

  10. 4 weeks ago

They should just change it so only the feet count towards being offside or not. Yes you still have the stupid 1mm cases, but atleast it's clearer to see for both the audience and the players instead of having to draw a line from someone's armpit.

    >doesn't fix the line drawing problem
    >doesn't fix the "idk when the player actually passed lmao"
    >defenses will stay even further back
    Woah, nice

    You have 3 options:
    >1. forget line drawing technology, let it be subjective, then find a way to punish refs who get it wrong too often
    >2. go full tech on the problem and put one sensor on the front and one on the back of the shirt of the player, then compare averages of each player to see who was in front at the time
    >3. let each team draw a different line on their home pitch and that line will be used for offsides (hockey offsides)

And all 3 options still have problems, but at least we won't be discussing about this gay shit as often as we do now

      Anonymous

With 2), if the player was standing sideways then the sensors would be in the wrong place. You’d need a full ring around each player’s chest. Almost like - gasp - the telemetry bras that every player in a top league wears already.

It’s so easy and I don’t get why it isn’t being done. Obviously lower leagues don’t wear the bras, but they don’t have VAR either so it doesn’t matter.

1.) remove passive offside. linesmen aren't chameleons.
2.) if an offside cannot be detected without technical help and CSI-tier infinizoom, it's not an offside.
