We went from Faarooq whipping the shit outta Savio to picrel. Funny how (younger, especially) millennials love to wax and wane about their childhood watching the Attitude Era, and yet every single one of them grew up to mark out for the lamest shit imaginable.

He's a solid midcarder and can be fun. He's like the Miz reliable and that's enough

Cena knew he was divisive as frick with Smarks and he still put his best foot forward despite it. He was Vince's most reliable soldier when everyone was b***hing.

He was going to get respect eventually.

He's a cynical dude for bowing to China and Vince yet you can clearly see he's also very talented. If the product really HAD to go PG and more kid-friendly he was best suited for being the pillar of this god forsaken era

Because his entire main roster career and push has been forced. Rock and Austin at least had a career before they became what they ultimately did. We got to see them each week and connect with their work through different phases of their characters, through face turns and heel turns, and watch them rise up the card. Same with Cena, Can't speak on Hogan because I'm not that old. But anyone else who's been a top guy or world champion you could say that about. Rock, Austin, Cena, Batista, Orton, Triple H, Undertaker, Foley, etc. Not Roman. He had that first year with the Shield. But as soon as they were decided on him they told you Roman was going to be the guy and you were going to like it. This goes back to suffering succotash and the magic beans and the grey/blue eyes shit. Obviously every top guy is manufactured in the sense that wrestling is booked and winners and chosen, etc. But Roman is the equivalent of an industry plant. And everything about him has always been hollow because of it. He became too big to fail for WWE

Pretty much nailed it. Plus, his comments on what the Undertaker said way back when were just as lame. Right Smarkbuster said it best: he's a privileged, self-absorbed millennial douchebag. Can you imagine the shoot interviews clowns like him will do, too? 9/11, 2008, 2016, muh wokeness....whatever you want to blame, there will never be an industry that has fallen into such utter disarray as wrestling has. Went from 7's+ to struggling for even a plain 2. The business itself is KWABOTY.

True. Cena almost got fired. he was not the golden boy until he earned it. Austin/Rock had to earn their spots. Roman Reigns was selected from day one to be the guy and nothing was going to stop that.

        >Rock had to earn their spots

Rock almost got fired, too. He told Joe Rogan Vince was about to let him go and only put him in the Nation as a last resort after Ahmed bombed, although Godfather said that Vince thought that doing this would make him the GOAT, so who knows? But you're right, though, and that's why nobody cares about Roman. He'll break some silly record and nobody will notice. Probably will be the last one to hold it too, since when Vince bites it, the media vultures will tear what's left to shreds.

greatness can only be faked in the absence of actual greatness, anon.

rock came from a time where you had to justify your spot in every single segment you were given or you just didnt get booked. he learned it from austin, who learned it under heyman. who learned it in wcw and the territories.

roman comes from a time where you're getting booked in a position because the company needs 'somebody' in that spot and he ticked more boxes than anyone else.

simply put, roman's been so protected because the company needed an attraction so desperately, that he never got to learn how to do anything.

I am genuinely curious on what happens to Roman if he loses his title. Because he's been coasting on this title reign for years to prop up this storyline, to the point where mfs are saying the storyline is ruined if he loses it. Nobody seems to realize or understand that they're essentially admitting Roman isn't shit without the title or an interesting supporting cast to cover his faults.

Even at the heights of the Bloodline; it was Jey, Sami, and now Cody carrying the audience's attention. So what happens when Roman can't rely on any of that shit anymore?

Rock, Austin, and Cena never really needed the title after a certain point to feel like stars, so I'm curious how Roman will adapt to not being Champion anymore.

      Truth.
I was never a fan of world champ Cena past about October 2005, it wasn't about le movez (originally marked for Goldberg), I just found him very boring in comparison to other guys. So a guy I found dull being pushed as the top guy for years wore thin. But Roman is something else.
Cenas promos were 99% of the time cornball hyuck hyuck pre 09 or post 09, "fine speech, here's a burial".
His matches were pretty repetitive and dull but that was more about being fed up him winning, the finish was always telegraphed.
But his feuds generally had heat and cool shit and even if I generally found whoever he was up against more interesting the builds generally had good stuff.
Roman is all of Cenas problems dialled to 2000.
He used to be a cornball promo, now he's just a slow, repetitive fake aura talker.
He's tediously plodding in the ring, the pace is somnifying and the repeat finishes makes Super Cena and RoT HHH look so varied in comparison.
His feuds basically have no heat. Just a rolling rota of faces saying they'll beat him while he holds up a finger, ACKNOWLEDGE ME, GOD MODE, buries the other guy with semi meta shit.
He's not even got a good look and I'm tired of pretending he does. Handsome but not remarkable face, physique and gear that just looks like any generic mixed race gymbro.
Walking and talking slowly with castlevania music isn't an aura
Commentary insisting you're Mt Rushmore and GOAT win machine while seething that you always cheat ten minutes later like an amnesiac is not an aura.
He's trash and it's an indictment of how bad AEW is that WWE is hot with Reigns on top. I can only think COVID, AEWs decline, and Stockholm syndrome is why people have accepted Reigns. He objectively never deserved to be higher than midcard solo, just like the Usos solo shouldn't even make midcard and Solo Sikoa is comedy jobber Umaga.

The feud is Cody and Rock. You realize Mania is only a little over a week away. What the hell has Roman done in any of this but stand in the background? You could argue at this point a non title match between Rock and Cody would be more compelling than Cody beating Roman for the title

Hopefully the plan is Roman loses, blames The Rock and "takes him out" (Rock starts filming a movie May 1) and it's the two at SummerSlam. If Roman retains, I have no idea where they go from there and Cody is basically DOA for the rest of his run.

        >If Roman retains, I have no idea where they go from there and Cody is basically DOA for the rest of his run.
They literally sacrificed Rock vs. Roman, and had the former turn heel, for Cody. I feel like they have to give Cody his moment to even justify that decision otherwise what are we even doing? And look, WWE does a lot of stupid shit even with Trips on board, but sacrificing their biggest babyface in years for a title reign that's long past its expiration date for a match that won't even happen for at least another year would be shooting themselves in the foot. Cody losing last year was arguably a bad decision given how little Roman did after Summerslam, there's no way they can justify doing it again.

Every other FOTC in the history of the business had to justify their spot, because they would genuinely kill the company if they couldn't. He's the first that didn't have to draw, because of the company having guaranteed money and strong branding. It's the Lex Express with infinite money.

I’m too young to be a millennial, however I’m not too young to look into things I enjoy. I enjoy wrestling, so I learn about it. Quite simple really. If people should only be talking about what they were alive, for then you should never speak in absolutes ever, which still makes this a flawed thread.

They don't and have never needed to have one mega guy for so long
Austin and Rock combined held the torch for less time than Roman has.
"Who else" is built on a fake assumption that anyone needs to be there that long, pro wrestling has more title defences (or used to) than MMA and boxing it's moronic to book boxing length runs in the modern highly televised era, it's not a sport, no mark or casual believes it's real anymore you have fricking Ugandan villages who understand kayfabe and working angles better than the smarks who want that presentation, people care about match outcomes because the match is the culmination of a story built by angles, they don't care because they're deeply invested in the win loss records and sporting stakes. The belt can't change hands monthly because then that story payoff loses meaning but if you book a rotating roster of competitive champions and title changes then everyone looks a star because it's so hard to keep a belt, so then those long runs actually means more and build up a story to payoff.
This has been endless years of the same, every time it seems like it might build to a payoff it hasn't, it's just been "elevate Roman further"
Who else could have held a belt in this time?
      >Drew to make the UK market happy and keep that audience strong
      >AJ Styles, who has grown beyond smark darling
      >Nakamura to try finally get a hook in the Japanese market
      >Logan Paul, guy is over with casuals
      >Orton to pad him towards tying Cenas record, hell have him tie it, title gets vacated, you can then do Orton/Cena for the tiebreak & finally make it draw, special ref flair or some shit
      >Cody, obviously. He's over with merchandise buying fans, which matters
      >Lashley could have had a run
      >Brock had been the guy for a while and could have broken this shit up, he was a way better final boss character
      >Go all the way to when Roman got handpicked, if Big E hadn't been zestified he could have done it
