Why does every activity now have to be an all in thing. Driving range as a casual, is fun for about 30-50 balls, which takes you 15 mins, then you go home. How can you make it into an activity worthy of sitting there for 2 hours.

Top golf isn't replacing your standard driving range. It's a way to get people who rarely golf to spend 50 bucks on food and beer

It's just a fun casual time with friends. Not more

Yes but why does every activity want to be everything. In Ireland coffee shops have taken up this mantle, they're in every nook and cranny of the country. We don't need coffee that much.

There's not many top golfs really so it's mostly a niche

Yeah I just happen to know about it, my friend lives in Virginia and we went over to him. I think he said they have many sports at the one complex like skydiving etc

The clubs suck dick if you know how to actually play golf. My swing speed is too fast for their normie clubs, I have to bring my own fitted set.

How good do you need to be to have fitted clubs?

I first swung a plastic club when I was 3, watching Tiger lap the field in the ‘97 Masters. I’m a 5 handicap right now, but I’ve been down to a 3. If recommend fitted clubs once you get below a 7ish handicap, but I also was coached throughout my junior golf years, so ymmv.

Can you ever be truly good if you didn't start as a child? Is 27 too old?

It depends, I play golf with guys in their 50s who didn’t play til their mid 20s and they’ve managed to hit high-single digit to low double digit handicaps. Chances are your swing will never be as pure though, it’s really something that has to beaten into you at a young age.

            >they’ve managed to hit high-single digit to low double digit handicaps
I'd take that at least. Wish I played in highschool at least

I played middle and high school golf, varsity for the 2 years that we won state championships back to back. Kinda wish I played college golf but the best scholarship I could get was D3.

It depends on a couple of things:
        >1) how often do you play
        >2) do you actually want to put in the time to improve, or just hit and giggle with some cold ones with the boys
        3) how much are you willing to spend

Places like club champion are good for getting your recommendations, but they'll try to insist that the best setup for you is a driver with a custom shaft that's like 950 bucks out the door, but since you got the fitting with them, they'll be generous and take 50 off so it's "just" $900. Same goes with the other clubs through the bag. My best suggestion is to get a lesson and unless you have some shitty starter set or a set from like 30 years ago, you're not really losing out on much if you're not ultra serious. I've won some local tournaments, captained my high school and college teams, and while my set is completely fitted for me, I'd still be able to play with a random set and do fine.

          > I'd still be able to play with a random set and do fine.
I hate the drop in yardage, I have XS shaft on my driver, having the slow down my swing because I’m forced to use a R shaft sucks. I don’t mind the cavity back irons on rental sets though

Maybe 10% of the people there actually play golf. Everyone else there is just making these moronic swings in between rounds of drinks. It will be extremely crowded and every girl there will have their phones out recording themselves to post on their socials. The balls are nerfed and the irons they give you are knockoff Callaway X-22 heads. No one brings their own sticks. You'll look like a tryhard homosexual.

How much does top golf cost? Like what's the pricing structure?
If I go to a range that has trackman in every bay it'll cost me the equivalent of $25usd for 150 balls
If I go to my local and hit 10 year old balls off a patch of grass it'll cost $17usd for roughly 100ish balls

Changes for days and hours. Friday is expensive. Most of the time my coworkers go on half off Tuesday

Yeah ok, so it's more geared towards having a few people sharing the cost over a couple hours, not so much individual practice.

Is it considered a bit too tryhard to take your own clubs if just going socially? Like taking your own bowling ball to an alley?

So is there some kind of actual scoring game involved here? like you drive the ball in to those colored zones for points?

Yes, there's a few different games to play to get points and score against your group. If you are good with long irons you'll smoke everyone
