High, because he had great technique and was fun to watch. Didn't have a career that can match the true greats of course, but amusement means a lot to me so he's miles ahead of players like van Nistelrooy for me.

He is a Valeron tier player overrated because he played in England when the english league was not even a top 4 league in Europe.

Overrated how? People thought he was really good lol no one is going around saying he's Iniesta tier or R9 tier. Thierry Henry said he's the best guy he's played with, go figure

Valerón was from his generation and he was simply better than Bergkam carrying a team like Deportivo in the CL and winning a league title with them, Bergkamp is remembered in the premier league because it didn't have that many great technical players, which is why La Liga rejects like Silva or Fabregas are considered some of the most technically gifted in the premier's history while they would not even be in a top 50 of best players that have played in La Liga or Serie A.
Bergkamp was a massive flop in Italy and only started to do well in a weaker league like the premier (the 4th of 5th best league in Europe at the time) who was packed with mediocre teams.

All I can say is that Valerón is underrated.
            Don't ask me why.

Back then football was a lot more local and less global than right now. Players like Butragueño, Magico González, Valerón or Futre are completly forgotten because people only cared about their leagues. Bergkam is also a complete nobody outside of England/Netherlands before Fifa made him popular again

Bergkamp played in the 90s-mid 00s, it was definitely global by then lol. Futre and Butra were 80s players that were finished by the early 90s, not really comparable.

The premier league back then was worse than Serie A (Bergkam is a Serie A reject after all), La Liga, Bundesliga and arguably worse than Eredivise. If you ask anyone in Germany or Spain about him he is a literal nobody. What changed consumption paterns was ilegal streaming and the internet which became more widespread later than Bergkam's prime

Henry and Vieira were also Serie A 'rejects', sometimes it just doesn't work out. The likes of Shevchenko, Veron, Crespo etc. all flopped in the PL after playing in the 'worlds best league' at the time so it's not always so black and white. Also Bergkamp finished top 3 in the ballon d'Or twice before moving to Inter, let's not pretend he was some nobody in the football world.

            >Shevchenko, Veron, Crespo
The only one in that list that wasn't shit was Shevchenko who was old when he moved at Chelsea. Bergkam achieved very little to be rated as highly as he is, if he had his career at Leverkusen or Dortmund you wouldn't even know him

            >Crespo and Veron were shit in Serie A

Yeah ok bro, whatever you say. Also Sheva had just turned 30 when he joined Chelsea, he wasn't old
