Checked. And exactly. If they just signed Sasha and booked her in decent matches, like with Britt or Stratlander, people would probably tune in and they'd probably actually get a milly. Instead they use Sasha in some stupid CEO gimmick (even though no one knows what she's the CEO of) to try to get Riho and Willow over (because apparently booking Riho with the biggest woman on the roster is going to make people forget she's a midget waif?) and they inevitably frick up any bump they can get with big signings. And it happens every time. And trannies try to dunk on fans of other promos every time. The booking is comically bad. Same with Edge and Nick Wayne or giving Okada the Continental Breakfast Belt and weighing him down with the Bucks. I would love to see Stone Cold in AEW, just to see how they'd frick up his booking.

I'm all for competition but AEW is so unbelievably fricking gay that I can't help but want it to crash and burn and for something else to take it's place. Their fans are so loud and confident despite being completely fricking moronic. Eddie Kingston is talked about like this amazing match machine but every time I see a clip of him it's easily the worst thing i've seen in wrestling for the whole week. They use people like the Young Bucks, Omega and Adam Cole and prop them up to be amazing current/future champions and yet they look like any bum off the street could kick them to death without breaking a sweat.
And as someone else said the Young Bucks are absolutely everything wrong with wrestling. Le heckin' irony in wrestling is what they hide behind because they know they are nothing but gymnasts that don't have the substance to carry real stories. Which is fine if you're having a 10 minute match and then moving on to the next town, but don't expect me to watch the show and pretend that style makes you some kind of competitor to WWE.

An angry but accurate take. Heatless matches should be 8 minutes or less, big feuds should be 15 minutes or more. AEW manages to make all their heatless matches 15-20 minutes or longer. It's exactly the wrong mix for a company looking to gain viewers.

The most popular fighters in UFC history aren't the ones who constantly took 20+ minutes to put away their opponents - they're guys like Anderson Silva, Cain Velasquez or Jon Jones who were fricking dudes up in 5 minutes or less, and only VERY occasionally got "exposed" and "figured out" and had a 4-5 round fight.

This March 27th Dynamite was by far the worst episode of the year and it's not even close. No long promos to tell a story or develop a character, no pull-aparts, no backstage brawling, just straight bullshit. Match, video package, match, video package, match, video package. The show fricking sucked and there's nothing there that will even approach going viral or winning over some new fans.

Based Mondegreen enjoyer, and yes I was thinking GSP and left him out on purpose. Literally read my mind. GSP was highly charismatic but fans seemed to enjoy him picking opponents apart for a 5 full rounds. I'm having a b***h of a time finding sites that list Scorecards next to Win-Loss record but this site has some great info:

          https://fighters.mixedmartialarts.com/Georges-St-Pierre:9E1A4588BD05B57B

GSP was 170, KO finishes are more rare at that weight range - GSPs plan seemed to be to take opponents into deep waters and wear them out - not merely lay on them like Askren or Jon Fitch or other vegana-havers with more career decision wins than finishes (GSP was on the right side of history). On a similar note about lighter weights, Conor McGregor was able to be a draw quickly because he was a smaller guy knocking fools silly instead of going 15+ minutes at the 145/155lb classes. It's basically not possible to be a draw as a heavyweight who lays on dudes for 3 rounds, because it looks so fricking sloppy, two gassed Roy Nelson-sized dudes slap-fighting, Dana will just fire your ass even if you're on a win streak

I shoot want to see AEW succeed because it means better pay, and better working conditions for more wrestlers. This kinda translates into more young people seeing wrestling as a viable future occupation and more chances for that one in a million natural wrestler to find their way into the industry.

I just like to shitpost about it failing here because, much like edrones, the vast majority of the fan base are morons that can be worked into a steamin, bubblin, percolatin, maldin melty with next to no provocation. Then I can enjoy seeing them shit up every thread in the catalog for hours at a time because they are no life shutin with no grasp of how unhinge their reactions are to the mildest banter about their preferred form of sweat man drama. Like I can finish watching a show, then get a whole 'nother show while I drink my beers and wait for my wife to finish her FFXIV raids for the night.

AEW has all the tools and talent in place, it's Tony. It's fricking Tony. He insists on having a show that he >95% is delighted by and it's running the company into the ground. Any time he lets up even a little bit and shaves off 10-15 minutes of match times in favor of promos, arguing, sneak attacks etc, the ratings do SO MUCH BETTER - but you can tell when the show goes back to boring bullshit the next week that Tony threw a tantrum because his AEW product looked too much like...uh...a wrestling-based entertainment show instead of a mildly-entertaining wrestling show

AEW can't get right until Tony accepts that what he wants doesn't align even 80% with what average fans want. If he could just accept 70-75% he could turn a profit.....if he keeps insisting on 95% Tony Khan Wrestling, this current downward trajectory will continue

Every single normie I speak to will literally tell me they USED to watch it. Cornette literally cited a survey where normies literally thought HOGAN was CHAMPION. HULK HOGAN. Too much overlap with Redditors? LOL. Redditors actually still care about shit normies bailed from in 2001. I'll never understand you people. NORMIES DO NOT CARE ABOUT WRESTLING IN CURRENT YEAR.

            Anonymous

You have no concept whatsoever of what a normie is. Do you hear yourself? Are you seriously this out of touch? A normie in this instance is just a wrestling fan who watches wrestling on TV. They don't listen to 5+ hours of Bischoff, Cornette, SRS, Salcedo, or any other random ass wrestling podcasts; they aren't giving Meltzer $12/month to spread bullshit; they're disconnected from most everything the rest of us are involved in.

I understand you're being cynical and it's part of your act, but it sounds stupid. You sound disconnected from reality, arguing just to argue. The reason Facebook is so strict is exactly because so many grandmothers and boomers are on the platform. The reason Reddit and X allow pornography and other degenerate bullshit is because it's populated by people like (You) that are bad faith, no manners, caustic and can't go 20 seconds without using sardonicism as a defense mechanism.

AEW fanbase are some of the most insufferable douchebag smarks on the planet. A lot of the AEW hate comes from the fact that it's just fun to watch these mentally ill homosexuals seethe.

This is true. For whatever reason, AEW fans seem to have a complete overlap with BLM and Palestine supporters - they insist on being terrorists, of ruining any discussion or cooperation, or making everything a fricking shitshow any time people try to put their differences aside, even temporarily, to discuss how to make [[topic at hand]] better for all parties. It's such counterproductive fricking bullshit and I'm sick of it.

Wrestling will never reach the heights of the late 1990s, but GUESS WHAT FOLKS? It doesn't need to. As long as you can fit several thousand fans into a building, and professional wrestling is center stage, and it's being broadcast nationwide, that's the best starting point you can ask for. And we now have 2 US-based companies delivering that not just on a weekly basis, but **several times per week**. I like both consoles, but AEW fans -- or at least, those pretending to be AEW fans for maximum griefing purposes -- are fricking insufferable around here. I thought Reddit was the worst but fricking hell.

            >You have no concept whatsoever of what a normie is.
This is the truth. People want to be entertained. They want to laugh. AEW as a product is so up its own ass with self-importance that only the smarkiest of smarks can appreciate it.
            >they aren't giving Meltzer $12/month to spread bullshit
The main problem with AEW. They are like morons that read "MotorTrend" and then walk into a mechanics shop and try to talk cars. Meltzer is an idiot and his subjective opinion as to what makes wrestling good is wrong and will never draw.
            >For whatever reason, AEW fans seem to have a complete overlap with BLM and Palestine supporters - they insist on being terrorists
This is also true. People need a break from the gaslighting game of politics, from both the left and the right. Injecting politics into wrestling is just stupid

            >NORMIES DO NOT CARE ABOUT WRESTLING IN CURRENT YEAR.
If you look at the 90's, the rise of WCW took wrestling mainstream. WWF was great at pulling people in with Saturday Night's Main Event in the 80's (those were really one-off events), but cable changed the game and their ratings were pretty dismal with Prime Time Wrestling and Superstars being their mainstay. The Monday Night war really changed that. All of the sudden, you had 6 million people on Monday tuning in to watch these shows weekly. Streaming has changed the game, but there is no reason something similar to the Monday Night War can't happen again. Currently, you have about 2 million that will tune in on Mondays. 1.5 million on Wednesdays, and 2.5 million on Fridays. That's about where Primetime was in the 90's before the boom. But this won't happen with Tony booking the Bucks or letting Hangman drink Swerve's blood. Stop doing stupid Indie shit and wrestling could be mainstream again.

Hell, I don't wish it would fail either, I think a lot of people are just actively upset or frustrated with it.
The company does have good talent. I have no doubts that the people in charge do like wrestling. It's just frustrating to me personally as someone who watches the show whenever I feel like it and being disappointed.

I dunno I feel like I'm more frustrated at AEW's stagnating and it's lack of presentation and just the issues it has. WWE's changed over the past 3 years and I think Covid unironically was the boost in the arm it needed.
AEW isn't a competitor to WWE and I think that was the biggest issue they've ever had with their presentation, branding and otherwise. I have to remind myself it's been like 12 years since TNA went head to head with Raw on Monday Nights. Raw was right in the PG era and it was absolutely awful or "so cringe it was hilarious" period, while TNA had a bunch of indepedent talent, Knockouts, recent WWE signings and old timers who were there to collect a paycheck. AEW never went head to head, hell the segments it does is different from even what WWE does, it's just a different thing all together.

Ultimately, that might just be why it's so controversial. It's origins as a company are obviously so tied to WWE and "competition" but I don't actually think it ever was even in it's early days.
