      I disagree.

Different titles mean different things---or should.

Each title has a different level of importance, for people of differing import, in addition to certain essences their lineages have imbued them with.

If we're being honest, the stories that matter most are ones where a title is involved---so having more titles allows for more focal points for more people who'd otherwise have no means for being spotlighted.

        is right lmao

I disagree, different titles meaning different things is a good storytelling tool. Let's take AEW's titles because that's what I watch mostly. Only the men's singles titles cuz frick doing the womeme and the tag stuff kinda speaks for itself.

          >World
          >International
          >TNT
          >Continental

World should be the big one and with the number of titles that should be only defended on PPV imo at this point, even though AEW tradition was always champ defends in a bit of a nothing match after a PPV. Thus making it the hardest to get a shot at, so stories around getting that shot can be built. Then you have the TNT, which should be the easiest to get a shot at, but guarantee you exposure, all the young blood should be hungry for it because you get to be seen most weeks—defended on TV most of the time—then when it's on PPV it's a bigger deal. International should come and go between their partner promotions to create a fluid feeling that "guys that are good enough to win a title can appear anywhere" but they need to find a place to put the matches to make that work. Continental being the "this is the serious business no interference without serious consequences" title you can use to narratively dispell the risk of "I hope they don't do anything fricky" until you do, but when you do it has to mean something serious and almost never happen. And if you create those expectations properly the stories that come from them are worth more than what you have without that framework. It's not being done well in AEW at all really, but it can be.

            Anonymous

International's meaning got fricked when Tiny decided Orange Cassidy's defenses needed padding, and started booking matches against natives and employees.

            Anonymous

That should be a thing that happens though. Natives however should be rare. But same company should be about 70% of the matches. Just because it's got a home promotion and most matches should be there.

AEW already has a midcard women's belt. If anything this is WWE playing catchup and it hasn't even happened yet. The mix tag belt idea was completely separate and already being discussed before this news so it wouldn't be reactionary anyway

even the best promoter on earth can't make mixed tag belts good, like dead promoters who made millions couldn't have. It's just impossible. It's such a shit match type. It would have to be intergender to work, but then some fans and more importantly some TV execs would say no. Plus the teams are gonna be so dog shit, I can't think of one good one, maybe Juice and Toni could deliver something awesome, Britt and Adam would be depressing.

The point being that they're going to be trying to spread things even thinner with, from at least what they headline makes it sound like, two more titles. So four singles titles and the tag belts. You can't possibly expect WWE to be able to successfully juggle 5 different women's title pictures at once

          Anonymous

thinner? theres like 70% of the womens roster never doing anything

            Anonymous

This only proves my point though. Unless SmackDown is going to 3 hours too which is probably likely once they move to USA. But even still with 3 hours on Monday they only ever feature a handful of names at any one time and that's with the tag belts being a complete afterthought. That's what I mean by thinner. Not the number of women but rather WWE's capacity to allot any time to them. Especially with Triple H's ppv model of 4-5 matches a show. Unless it's a two-nighter like Mania or SummerSlam in a few years those midcard belts would never see a ppv

I understand the logic behind making a post like this, and I don't necessarily disagree...but it's ultimately futile. Raw and Smackdown already signed megadeals for the next 5 years, Saudi shows no signs of slowing down (they're ramping up, if anything), NXT is being heavily bolstered ahead of a move to network TV.....this is the path moving forward.

There is no appetite for more Men's singles matches. There is no appetite for more Men's tag team matches. The people with the access to the information that (You) don't have have determined there's a need for more Women's content.

The idea that Cagematch and Reddit and Fhite say Women's wrestling sucks, therefore WWE should continue to sign dozens of Women to NIL/NXT deals and give them airtime, just to stick them in catering once they hit the main roster because 4 total Women's titles is plenty, is Everclear-tier distilled moronation. They're not signing and training all of those wrestlers for millions of dollars just to cut them because they have no creative for them.

The name of the game in 2024 is content and load management, better use of the roster with a larger rotation. Expect an all-Women show sooner rather than later, starting on Peawiener/Netflix and later moving to linear TV. Adding more titles will be necessary to avoid "I'm better than you.....bitch"-level writing that tends to form the base of most Women's storylines to date. Bringing in TNA/Marigold talent will also keep things fresh.

titles are a crutch for when you can't write real stories

      Anonymous

Not a bad take until you realize 20/30 NBA teams make some version of the playoffs each year, and MLB/NFL have both expanded playoff participants as well. Accolades are a draw.

"Real stories" are largely a nebulous, outdated concept that no longer apply to today's balkanized media landscape. You can already see this in wrestling promotions where every match *needs* a title, or weapons/tables/bleeding, or all of the above. It's not generating any extra money, it's not doubling or tripling their social media engagement, it's just driving advertisers and sponsors away.

Fans are going to be into what they're into despite how much resources and time you allocate to writing 'real stories'. If TNA/Marigold crossover, midcard titles, a Women's-only weekly show are what it takes to bring Women to 60/40 in WWE instead of the current 75/25, then it is what it is.

If you don't like it, the remote is right there. Just don't go shoving it up your ass once you realize your endless individual b***hing and complaining and boycotting hasn't put a dent in TKO's bottom line.

I always see women's wrestling proponents saying this. I still can't help but feel it would be the most detrimental thing for them. Instead of further integrating the women into more and more prominent spots on the card and actually making them stars on a more equal level to the guys it'd just relegate them all to their own containment show that no one outside of women's wrestling fans would have to watch or even consider

        Anonymous

Yes and No, it would likely start at an hour (commercial free), filmed before/after NXT, so about 3 matches plus video packages, interviews and so on. It's not going to be difficult to find 8-10 women each week that aren't involved in major Raw/Smackdown/NXT storylines and give them some additional ring/promo time. You don't have to put World Title-level storylines on there, but you need somewhere for the Women to get their reps in. The addition of midcard titles makes it much more plausible.

Wtf is this moronic shit. We already have women midcard titles, they are called women's WWE champion and women's world champion. Women will always be midcarders by definition.

At the risk of sounding like a troony - you have one joke. And it's the one that's already been said in this thread multiple times. If you're going to troll, don't be a derivative little homosexual, be original.

I didn't tell any joke, I stated a fact, women are midcarders by the definition of the term midcard. A joke is when you claim to be a woman, which will never be.

Honestly I thought WWE already had them made. I thought when Lyra was added to QOR before the Summerfest announcement, the winner QOR (Birb) would have just been given the ladies' IC title and the US title would come later since SD doesn't need a mid card belt when they have the tag titles for the foreseeable future.

    >Raw belt
Iyo is the first champ with Lyra chasing her. easy enough.
    >SD belt
all the stars are preoccupied, assuming Startton wins MITB, call up Lola Vice or move Zoey Stark over. SD doesn't need a midcard women's title, RAW does because it's 800 hours long and the one belt is held by a woman who can't wrestle in a feud with 2 people who are injured and another who may or may not work in the company.
