reducing the total league games to just a few thousand each season would also help

      Here's how you fix baseball:
      > 45x90m grass pitch
      > two goals with two goalies/catchers
      > 11 vs 11 players with bats
      > goalies can walk up to midfield to throw ball, but players can hit goalie with bat
      > if ball hits the ground designated throwing guy can throw ball from there again

      >Reduce regular season to 100
      >Reduce playoff games to best of 3, WS will be best of 5
      >No wild cards and divisions, the top 4 of each league goes to playoffs
      >Drastically reduce the number of inter league games, do what NFL does and each team plays only 4 teams from the other league every season.

Think of the billionaire owners profits

Even less. You don't need to play the same team 3 or 4 times in a row & you don't need to play the same divisional opponent 13 times over a season. 60 games max

        >You don't need to play the same team 3 or 4 times in a row
Yes you do, it's setup like that so every starting pitcher gets to play against the opposing team. My idea is each team plays a series a 3 against every team in their league, home and away. So that's 45 home games and 45 away games. The interleague games will be between 4 teams, a series of 3 each. 102 regular season games total

          Anonymous

Why is it so important for a team to have 4 starting pitchers? Just stagger the games to allow for rest & have 2

rusty buckets used to pitch 150 pitches every other game and these guys can't even throw 70 without blowing out their arm. Pathetic.

            Anonymous

Well the playoffs are never gonna be single elimination, and the WS will always be best of 5 or 7, so teams need to build a squad that has 3-4 starting pitchers if they don't want to start losing badly after game 3

          Anonymous

needs to be 147 instead of 162

          >play each of your division teams for 14 games 7 at home and 7 away broken into 3 and 4 game series for a total of
          56 games.
          >play non divisional league opponents for 7 games each 3 and 4 games split home and away for 70 games total.
          >Play interlegue 3 game series against 7 opponents from the other league for 21 total games.
          >56+70+21= 147 games.
playoffs are the same format they currently are except:
          >wild card weekend begins on Saturday with a double header.
          >game 3 on Sunday @noon if needed
          >game 1 of LDS play begins that Monday @4-7pm
          >games played in consecutive days until teams change cities. Only 1 day off between games maximum for travel.
          >series format is 3 games at home 3 games away then game 7 at home of high seed. 3-3-1 format.

Then the standings should be determined by series won

they play 12 games a year, once a week. It's different than 162 games a year. Even without costs, its too exhausting for teams to be travelling somewhere every single day.

Time to build actual competitive minor leagues. There's absolutely zero reason Nashville, Charlotte, Raleigh, Richmond, Orlando, Birmingham can't sustain a competitive pro baseball team.

You're moronic if you think moving up farm teams is even remotely the same thing.

The system where small markets have nothing more than farm teams is an inferior product. All they are is a place to drink beer, nobody actually cares about the team.
The farm teams should be in the home city's market and be branded "Atlanta Braves 2", "Atlanta Braves 3". Its already moving in that direction, with owners moving their farm teams into a suburb of the city. Cities without MLB teams should have non-farm teams.

I think the strike covered up the fact that expanding to 8 teams made the regular season dead weight and what really killed the league. The 162 season acted as an organic natural elimination as the season went on and actual pennant races were covered day to day from August-September and were captivating in a way no playoff race now comes close to approaching

Yes that made for a lot of dead games down the stretch but thats where

Of course I want a game to mean very little, that's when it's the most meaningful in ways you still clearly don't comprehend yet.

    What's broken about baseball?
Feels like the toxicity of the startup mindset.
Baseball doesn't need rule changes or more runs or faster games, it needs to tune out the internet commenters who never liked baseball. It just needs to put its games where kids can see them as opposed to putting them on RSNs that like declaring wars with cable providers where only half the 65+ people in any region can see them regularly.
Stop trying to turn it into a pinball machine and just put the games online.

the main problem is MLB is broken not baseball and conflating the two as interchangeable terms isna lot of the problem, and that the big problems with MLB started 30 years ago not recently

Everyone suggesting to have less games misses the point of baseball. Basically any day during the season you are free you can get a cheap ticket and head down to the ball park for a relaxing fun day outside on a whim. Nobody cares about you morons watching games on shady stream sites. Touch grass

      And this.

Only thing that ought to be changed is the playoffs should just be the two best teams in each league, or 3 division winners and one wild card. Way too many shit teams getting rewarded with postseason chances given how random the game is.

make it the 3 divisional winners, but allow 4 wild cards to play a NCAA style double elimination bracket to determine a 4th slot. But the winner of that travels in every game against the #1 seed

because it makes the games pointless since each individual one doesn't matter much. If you had a 30 game schedule, then each win/loss matter much more to make the playoffs.

We should reduce the wear and tear on the players by a slight reduction to the low 150's or high 140's. Asking for "muh baseball every day" when October is such a crap shoot is just the fans being greedy babies.

Move the mound back 10ft, skew the diamond so the distance between bases gets progressively longer. The pitcher doesn't get any warm up or talking to his catcher once he get on the field. Ban 1st and 3rd base coaches. And one strike.
