It has less to do with his lack of enthusiasm and more to do with the fact that he's just too old and can't keep up with the conversation. Commentary constantly feels like everyone standing around grandpa at his 100th birthday party, politely waiting for him to finish a story that he's struggling to remember.

Nothing and nobody matches JR's hype-voice. Saying that, if you listen to his WCW and WWF stuff, then watch Dynamite, you can tell he's much slower, more sensitive to his own mistakes (keeps going on about it when he fricks up), and grumpier. You could say he's only Color in AEW,, but even Excalibur can't matchwhen JR is actually hyped.

Taz/Excalibur is a top notch duo and should be the main guys for the show.
I agree. I usually don’t mind guys riding out their careers into their old age, but this is definitely a case of overstaying their welcome. J.R can do backstage stuff and be among the boys + respected, and Tony can do interviews and be Britt’s lil buddy, they make commentary difficult to listen to.
The commentary last night with JR and Tony was embarrassing. They purposefully brought Tony in for the Bucks/Sting match just so he could yell "THIS SOOOO MUCH FUUUUN IM SO HAPPY TO BE HERE"
JR was equally bad. He basically buried ZSJ during that match, despite ZSJ/Cesaro being the best pure wrestling on the show. Taz/Excalibur/Kevin was all you needed.
JR is the eyes & ears of the audience, & he fulfils the role perfectly.
They just need to find good replacements for taz and Excalibur and they will have a good commentary team finally
