The build was trash because who Tony could and couldn't get continued to remain in doubt due to constant injuries and illness. Regardless the PPV was great (minus the final two matches), it sold out, and NJPW were very happy with the outcome and are already trying to book more cross-promotion PPVs. You didn't watch the PPV. The worst matches were the dojo tag and the women's match. Moxley-Tana was better than Claudio and ZSJ

I didn't watch the women's match, I must admit. I skip those and discount their existence completely because holes can't wrestle.
Of the Men's matches, the last two were probably the worst. Moxley and Tana just had a self-indulgent 20 minutes between a broken old man and a guy who could never work, and the main event was an overbooked mess with Adam embarrassing everyone.

He's right, Claudio vs ZSJ was MoTN. A solid 6.5/10 one, at that. Not even great in it's own right, just very good.

Not him but Mox's bulldog choke is more based than Saber's fake homosexual pretzel shit. It being Claudio's debut also killed the drama of who would win and the match didn't really build to a satisfying ending, he just decided he would hit his finish and that was it.

Shave a star off the Smol match and I agree with you completely, very level-headed, fair ratings. I think everyone feels compelled to rate everything they liked as 4 stars as a floor, they need to know what they just watched was really, really good, when in reality there's absolutely nothing wrong with a 3 star match. Not everything can be excellent, people just tend to inflate fricking everything.

Completely agree, in fact I rate the ppv highly (7.5) for its regularity, except for the women's match of course, no match falls below **3/4 stars, and I prefer that to a ppv where there is a great match of ****1/4 and the rest hardly reaches **

In that post I was referring to them interfering the Roppongi Vice VS FTR match, which I do in fact think they wouldn't mind doing in character, and the reason why they don't do it is just cause New Japan doesn't want to book shit like that.

But yes, there was a small bit of Aussie Open interference in the match vs OC, which was cringe. However, the finish itself was clean and far removed from any of that, so I'm not too bothered about it.

The injuries hurt any late demand from people that were on the fence waiting for big matches to be announced. Also the fact that a bunch of matches weren't even finalized until the week of the show doesn't help, since nobody is going to formulate travel plans on such little time. AEW also has pretty weak late demand anyway due to having fewer casual fans and less name recognition.

Why is this so hard for people to understand? The show sold out based solely on the idea, then the execution was so bad they nobody who didn't already want to go was inclined to buy it. Tony still got his money so I doubt he cares but I do think the next forbidden door should maybe be in a smaller arena or Japan

The next Forbidden Door should be well promoted, but unfortunately Tony is incapable of that. And it's not the arena that's the problem, it's the PPV buys lol

        >should be well promoted,
        >unfortunately Tony is incapable of that
I think that's the root of the problem.
And I think it stems from Tony's reported encyclopedic knowledge of wrestling.
In his _head_ he knows the backstory and all the twists and turns.
But he fails to convey that knowledge to the fans in proper bite sized chunks that are consistent and easy to digest.

        > take the end goal
        > work backwards to build interest
Example: Aussie Open. Who the frick are they? Why should I care? Do they have heat with FTR? And Roppongi Vice, what the frick is "roppongi" and why should I care?

    >$4 for a seat
    >$1000s for a flight
    >$100s in hotel fees
    >$50 bucks per T-shirt
AEW is a T-shirt company. They lure in fans with cheap seats and get them to buy overpriced T-shirts.

Just another sign that the fat marks who pay for shit like the Jericho Cruise don’t care as much for the quality of the product as they do for the convention aspect and feeling like they belong.

It’s the Star Trek convention theory, and eventually they suffered because the attendees grew old and immobile after they were sucked dry.

They bought tickets to this mediocre show prior to the card being announced and now have to pretend like it was a classic.
