Sometimes, like in your example where I was interested in the style match up. But you're mostly right. There's some naturalness to it, but nowhere near the pump. Most female MMA look like awful grappling matches with the occasional local karate tournament tier punching. I'd rather just watch an actual grappling/wrestling match. It might not be healthy for the fighters, but they need a few more Zhang/Jędrzejczyk absolute blood bath matches to really get attention.

I watch WMMA but only the good ones. The best female MMA fighters are on par skill-wise with decent-to-good male fighters. They can even show some neat stuff that you don't see as much in the male divisions. But anyone outside of the top 10 (hell maybe even outside of the top 5) rankings of the female divisions are absolutely dreadful and I usually skip them.

80-90% of the women in most weight classes aren't very notable. Zhang, Andrade, Rose, Joanna, Shev, Nunes and Ribas are a few standouts. The rest just kind of look like amateur matches.

in rugby 7 something similar started happening, they held the male and female matches at the same time. Because they are faster than your regular rugby, if you want to see the real matches, you have to watch the female matches. So yeah, the female ratings went up, who would of know? doesn't mean it's organic

I enjoy the good fights. There are plenty of them, it's just that wmma has a smaller talent pool so there are fewer of them. It's like heavyweight in that regard, but wmma fights are better than heavyweight fights because at least they don't immediately gas.
I watch it because I'm horny, wish it was a higher intensity. They fight like it's a sparring match. There is no visible difference between when they start fighting and when the fight ends. It's the same baseline energy through out.
