Live TV always has more value to advertisers and in turn TV execs. I've read it's because not live TV is heavily recorded by DVR's and the ads either get cut out automatically or the user can skip through them while sports viewers want to watch it live so the ads have more value.

I don't know if the DVR thing is true but there must be something about live TV that is gold to them. Otherwise WB would just cancel AEW, save a boatload of cash and run another hour of Big Bang and whatever else they own and be UP overall but they don't do this.

        Anonymous

All marquee channels need some amount of original programming, along with reruns/movies, otherwise they can't justify high fees to be included in TV packages. WBD would be stupid to not make a strong play for AEW, but they can't give them a blank check just because WWE is doing well.

DVR, if you start the show 20 minutes late, you can skip all the commercials. So it's not so much DVR for ad rates, it's watching the show days later. Anyone motivated enough to watch the show days later probably isn't going to sit through commercials. Someone who gets home at 9pm will start the show from the beginning and use the commercials as a piss/unload the dishwasher/walk the dog/etc break.

        >The main event was Nightingale vs Blue?
No way that's true, right? Didn't Jericho also have a hardcore match vs 1 of the beloved Japs? Why didn't that main?

If Tony is trying to build up the women's division for Sasha's impending arrival, he is barking up the wrong tree. When you're hemorrhaging viewers, it's best to go back to what works: mens wrestling.

AEW's women's division needs more multi-threaded storylines. There's just not enough overlap tying everything together.

Consider: instead of Willow vs Skye Blue in singles match, they do Willow/Statlander vs Saraya/Harley, which would be an admittedly shit match......but somewhere in there, you have Skye Blue walk out and taunt Willow, have Willow run after her and abandon the match, Saraya hits Stat with some kind of weapon and gets the pin. You could even have Zak Knight out at ringside holding down Stat's foot so she can't kick out, then that leads to Zack/Saraya vs Stat/Angelo mixed tag on a pre-show or other spot.

Result: Willow/Stat internal issues, Saraya/Harley get a much-needed win, Zak/Angelo continue a feud, Skye TV time, etc. Instead of all that, you get a street fight with no moving parts that will be forgotten next week.

But smarks have to frame it in terms of Meltzer's approval of their match(es), which is the most worthless way possible to frame a feud meant to draw eyes to the product, give the fans an entertaining show and (just btw) make some motherfricking money.

This isn't like a MLB game where if you go 4-6 with 3 HRs and 10 RBIs, you just had a career night whether there was 35,000 in the crowd or 3,500. Full buildings matter, social media engagement, merchandise sales, it all matters.

One of the interesting things about Dynamite in the first two years is that it had a fiercely loyal fanbase and a large percentage would follow Dynamite through some really brutal timeslot changes due to TNT preemptions. Declining quality and oversaturation means people don't even want to stay tuned to Rampage when it's part of Dynamite.

    >he's booked like shit
He has been tanking the ratings literally since day 1. I don't think AEW ever had a roster member that would crater this hard. Obviously people don't like him. Why?
