This obviously doesn't always work out, but the fighters putting on a worked show has the advantage of theoretically making every match good. Whereas in shoot fights, a match can be really boring (like Floyd Mayweather using rope-a-dope) or just over really quickly (like Mike Tyson scoring really quick knockouts) because their goal is to win rather than put on an entertaining match.
