For those of you who watched sports before HD came, what was it like? Was the viewing experience any different?

Past 720p I didnt really see any change
I only watch streams - i get the sovl retro experience.
life was better
couldn't see puck
But since you weren't using a cheap LCD there was better motion clarity.
Remember when some network tried having the puck's location highlighted and people got all butthurt about it so they stopped?
It was ugly and required a gimmick puck that the players weren't allowed to practice with
Sports especially ball sports was much better on a crt with higher fps and better dept.
What do you mean by better dept?
that homie retarted ignore him
Maybe he meant better depth but I still don’t know what that means
You actually saw more of the field because cameramen tend to zoom by width, rather than height.
It's been so long that I forgot. Last time I had a CRT was back in 2008 and I was 31 at the time.
you literally couldn't see the puck
>there are literally people posting on Fhite who don't remember watching sports on a CRT
I watched other things on CRTs, just don’t specifically remember it. But to watch my team back in 2007 I had to go to Buffalo Wild Wings with my dad
SOVL
They were fine. The modern (over)production and intentionally distracting AR have been the biggest change in watching sports.
Now get off my lawn.
Only problem was recording games was a colossal pain in the ass (think VHS). Everything else was better from the leagues themselves to the broadcasts to the highlight shows.
jesus fricking christ, is everyone a braindead fricking zoomer on this site?
Yea
Everything looked better on cathode rays
Never really thought about picture quality until HD came out. It was more about if you had shit signal one day due to weather or your aerial
quality used to be more variable in general
if it's a proper SD stream then it looked almost as good as an early LCD, way better black levels
they were a lot more fun to punch and headbutt
