Bullshit. It was the most onesided final of all time.
Just to underscore this

And that one wasnt a final.
Nothing after the 1994 world cup counts.
Game became too globalized, too much money. There's no "Germany" type or style anymore, there's no south american daring style, there's no england hoof the ball, there's no technical Soviet Union/Russia, all the players play with or against each other in european leagues week in week out. There's no feeling of "other" about other countries, nothing new to be learned or fascinated about how they play like in the old days.
I consider 1994 as the cutoff point because it was the last time 24 teams were there (when you could watch every game and it actually meant a huge deal to qualify, and the last game was chaotic due to so many possibilities for 3rd places going through), 1998 was also the first year that they let Africa be a team and win.
So I don't know what international football is anymore, it's just random players matching up and playing each other. It's still football, but national pride and other romantic notions are basically dead long ago.

Interesting point. Fair point too. I wonder if as technology advances and the game is more heavily analysed, national teams might start being even more similar as they move towards the statistically optimal playstyle.

Iconic.
