Has soccer lost its charm? I simply seldom care about this sport anymore. There is nothing interesting going on.

Real Madrid are slurping through the tournament.
It's all because they removed the away goal rule, fricked everything up.

    The hooligan aspect has gone
    The tribal aspect has gone
The captains are no longer from the city they play for, nevermind the country
    Too many blacks

    Literally what’s the point?
The whole idea of football was to replace the tribalism of wars.
Supporting a bunch of over paid Black folk when you’re white is embarrassing

it's called getting older, there's only so much football you can watch before you've seen it all. it's like if a tv show had 150 seasons, that's just what football is. and there's another one starting in a few months

Bayern-Real wasn't more exciting than vroom vroom? (grew up in an era when F1 was on national TV pretty much every Sunday) I even had some F1 toy cars. No Schumi no F1 for me.

Like many other things, it has been gradually going downhill since the turn of the millennium. Zoomers will never know how much fun 90s football was. It's just a soulless corporate cash cow now.

    • VAR
    • Female commentators
    • Tackling is practically illegal
    • Very few likeable players

The last 90 minute game that I watched was the 2012 champions league final.
Drogba scoring that winning penalty was a good way to go out, but the 2005 champions league final was the peak!

I watched the highlights of that last night. I thought it was funny one of the other players David Luiz took a running sprint up to shoot from really far out, but Drogba to win the game had the most casual pen of all just took one step forward and slotted it away without even thinking

It may work if you have a sexual break from watching footy. Also I agree that modern football is totally utilitarian, Ronaldinho would be shouted at by some bald fraud to play simple pass if he played today, no fun allowed.

Yeah every once in a while someone else wins, but they're still always the best team in their leagues and always in the quarters or semis of the CL. It's too predictable now and became very stale

In order to smesh modern football, someone should smesh neoliberalism first. Publicly owned clubs is the only way to save the game.

CL quarter finals are consistently outstanding, remember the Tottenham’s run, for example. Then it’s usually followed by 5 slurpers of “we’re gonna carry the trophy to our owner’s feet by all means necessary like good boys we are”

It's literally the same it always was when it comes to my local team. Same old fun going to the stadium, travelling on away days, meeting friends, defending your city and your region.
However, I haven't watched top level football in years at this point.

What sport do you have that doesn’t suck? Basketball, probably, that’s about it, also apparently it’s poisoned by social media drama. Handegg is too artificial and commodified, no mass appeal cause you need a lot of special equipment to play it yourself. Same with hockey, also a snowmonkey’s sport the world doesn’t care about, and the gameplay is too repetitive and lacks variation. The rest of your sports just plainly suck.

Football is a very popular pickup sport. You don't need to wear full pads when playing casual games in the park.

Okay, fair enough. What if I want to play a serious amateur game? Sunday league football is incomparably more accessible, than handegg.

Which is why soccer is so popular with thirdies. Hence the comment about joining us in the first world where we watch entertaining sports for people with means. But no one invited Russia anyway.

I doubt a lot of amateurs play handeggs seriously in the US either. Probably too dangerous and your people are too fat in general. Football will always remain a king.
