Nah just shit journalism would be my bet, probably wasn't too dissimilar to this:
    >have 10 min interview
    >discuss tactics, players, strategy
    >Fierce rivalry, what would be your message to the fans?
    >Uh just behave, nobody wants trouble.
    >SOUTHGATE DESPERATELY URGES FANS TO BEHAVE AHEAD OF RIVAL CLASH

portugal got a much harder path to win the euro and they actually won.
          ukraine
          denmark
and the worst italy in decades yet they choked and had to win thanks to refball in their way to the final

? its a much harder path LMAO, that croatia went to the finals of the next WC, Poland is better than denmark and wales which was the easiest one is better than ukraine and also the next WC champion in the finals.
meanwhile you got the worst germany, the worst italy and two conventionally easy teams.
both were easy paths and but englands was easier thats the point of the comparison

lets not exaggerate lad, we got an easy path
despite germany being at its worst in decade they are still far better than the 3 teams we faced on route to the final
and so was denmark who are on their best form since they won the euro in 1992 (they couldve and probably wouldve won this one as well ahd they not been rigged by the english though)
but yes ukraine is the worst of all the 8 sides both us and them faced, and italy are laughably bad ringht now and are much worse than france, it was a major fluke win on their part, but cheers to them anyway

            excluvively vs shitters though
best best sides they didnt lose agaisnt were belgium, spain, and england, who are all frauds, and that happened to be in the run to the final
they also didnt outright beat 2 of them, needing penalties, but spain and england are notoriously bad at those
it was fluke mostly, like greeces win, but congrats to them anyway, especially since they failed to qualify for 2 wcs in a row, proving that they are a pretty bad nt right now

british journalists ask the same question over and over until he gives some kind of vague response and then frames it like he ran into a market and screamed his opinion like a town crier. The journo asked him what he thought about the last time England went to Germany where 2 pissed fans made nazi salutes and it was ironically treated like a declaration of war. What's he supposed to say other than "i hope they don't do that"

So you think the fans should go there and cause trouble? Or do you agree with Southgate?
I'm not saying I agree with everything out of Southgate's mouth but people are unironically getting mad at him for taking the somehow controversial stance of "It would be bad for fans to fight"
This is just not a story and as such this thread should not be about Southgates political views but about journalistic integrity and their failure to report on things properly.

You remember when anytime Trump said something and it wasn't really a big deal but people on the left got mad and everyone started calling it Trump Derangement Syndrome. Well its not unique to Trump and its not unique to the left.

            >So you think the fans should go there and cause trouble?

no, I think that mister 'I have an opinion on everything in the world' should just shut the frick up and when asked such questions, he should underline that he's focused on football and his team only and all the peripheral shit does not concern him, instead he wants to get the brownie points so he'll also take a lot of shit for opening his gob

            >only cares
no you moron, he's doing the bare minimum to avoid pointless controversy. It's not like he's being asked football questions and responding with "who cares about who i'm playing right back when theres SO MUCH INJUSTICE"

How are you still mad at southgate when its clearly a failure of quality journalism and the predictability of that that makes him give bland answers?
If journalists were better then he could happily say something like "I can't control the fans and will stay focussed on football" without fearing getting drummed out of a job. Its perfectly sensible of him to just go with a very normal opinion of "Yeah they should behave" simply to avoid the inevitable [...] headline.
In fact I could make an argument that hes keeping himself and the whole squad focussed on football by giving the simple and predictable answer rather than saying something which would create inevitable controversy even though it shouldn't which is the fault of the press, which is what I've been telling you all along.
But don't strain your brain thinking too much about consequences eh?

I don't even like Southgate m8, hes fricking shite. I'm saying you're a fricking moron for getting upset about him for no reason in this instance and you're doing that because you don't like his politics. You should be getting mad at the press for being shit or be recognising that he just played the game here and didn't do anything remotely controversial.
Deranging yourself into somehow thinking he has done something wrong in this specific instance is some next level mental gymnastics.

            >when asked such questions, he should underline that he's focused on football and his team only
thats the part you're misinterpreting, british journos are scum and will only ask these kinds of questions, they take up well over a half of any press conference and if they don't answer they get pressed, and if they actively refuse to answer its framed as them supporting racism because clickbait. Southgate replying with a single sentence of "lets hope everyone behaves" is as close to a "frick off and move on" answer as possible. Not to mention the FA will be advising his responses so he's always going to say he supports the kneeling and shit when asked because if you don't directly say you support it, it will be taken as you actively do not support it, which will cause all of the FA executives to have to apologise to their wifes boyfriend and they will be upset at him. I don't think southgate is virtue signalling or acting high and mighty here, he's saying what he has to in as few words as possible to minimise scrunity and controversy within the england squad. You also have to consider the fact that he has to manage a bunch of dumb uppity nigs who will sulk and quit the first chance they get to act the victim, so he has that to think about when answering these questions

tldr i cant see the point of him doing anything else while hes england manager, this is by far the path of least resistance

Plenty out there with stupid levels of cope implying players are tired which is dumb given every c**t on that pitch hadn't played for at least 2 weeks except TAA but mostly people recognise its little more than glorified friendlies and was an experimental setup with fringe players which is fair tbh.
