He's a 2-time WWE Champion and a legend in wrestling in general. have a nice day.

AJ hasn't done frick all in the company for years. He could hardly beat Karrion Kross a few months ago but now he's a 'major opponent' to Cody Rhodes. Get Triple H's wiener out of your mouth

and now he earned his title shot and has come back with a chip on his shoulder. you can just say you don't watch the show bro

I do watch the show. That's how I know he's been doing nothing for years. He comes back and has a nothing feud with LA Knight for Mania, which I was at both nights. So again big miss on me not watching. AJ Loses. Beats him the next Smackdown after, because we love 50/50 booking, and is suddenly number one contender to the top belt in the company. That's all there is behind this match. To call it heatless or hotshotted is an understatement

You're right, but it wasn't exactly 50/50. He raked his eyes when the ref didn't see so basically he wouldve lost otherwise.

He hasn't been booked well, but it's still AJ Styles, you fricking zoomer.

I'm perfectly aware of who AJ Styles is. I was watching him, Joe, and Daniels while you were wearing your John Cena shirts to school. So you can piss off with the zoomer shit

Then why the frick are you complaining. Did you see the three-way with Rey and KO? He's not washed.

Because AJ being based isn't the issue. Love the dude. I'd love to see him win even though that obviously isn't going to happen. And that is the issue with how obvious and pointless of a match it is. To go from ending a 4-5 year long story at Mania just to have zero fallout prepared for the guy who actually takes the title off of Roman. It's just boring and lazy and fails to capitalize on what should be the biggest title win of the decade. Just feels like they could've done a lot better

You're assuming this is a one and done, with a decisive Cody win, rather than the start of a multi-PPV program that will develop into a blood feud that delves into the parallels between them and the paths that led them both to this intersection. Unironically, let's see where this goes.

they're not wrong that it's as basic and interchangeable of a feud as it gets. you could replace aj with any other guy and it wouldn't be any different
>match set up by a mini tournament >gets a couple of weeks to build it up
Difference being that AEW would just put this match on the PPV without any previous build.
This.
And there is no denying that pretty much nobody gives a shit about this match - Not Cody fans, not AJ fans.... not even if LA v AJ was a decent WM match, not even if it's Cody first "real" title defense.
The hangover from being jerked around for 2 years with Cody, 3 years of coconuts that seemed unreal in comparison to other runs to finally end in WM40 is tangible.
But they at least tried, there's a reason it's AJ, they try to bake it interesting with promos and intersecting stories that led to the match up.
AJ won a match to become #1 contender. They have several segments, one being tonight, building up the story. If this was AEW, this would be announced for Smackdown with no build or explanation.
Backlash is basically "Wrestlemania lite". Usually every feud will have a repeat match at Backlash that noone truly cares about. Its a C tier PPV whose purpose is for a gentle decent from the WM hype into the Summerslam lull.
Blame Roman having leukemia and The rock not doing it for small time PPVs that the match feels lackluster.
>Blame Roman having leukemia and The rock not doing it for small time PPVs that the match feels lackluster.
Or maybe blame WWE for continuing to build it's product around people it can't rely on to be there to do the job that's needed to carry it

I mean thats basically what I said. The roman bit should have made it obvious.
The most based thing about this ppv is that it's early in the day. Those are the best ones. You get together with your people, watch the show, and then you get to chill for the rest of the day
Hard disagree. I love the frick out of these morning PLEs. In my timezone they always fall in that sweet spot of getting to sleep in on the weekend and but not being awake so long you need to do shit.
Finna sleep off my hangover, wake up, jump in the shower, and the start drinking as soon as the preshow starts. By the time the show is over I will have a decent buzz on and head down to the pub for some pints and food to bulkshit with my friends.
Like this is even a bigger. AJ is over the hill and Cody has never been a power worker like Kenny Omega or even John Cena in his prime. This is what I call a solid 4 star match.
why are y’all wwe homies so mad lol?
it’s literally fine, just accept that op is right here, they even called it a fricking banger like lmao at least take that win. but it is a heartless match with almost no build and also with aj styles, who just lost at wrestlemania.
it will be a banger, but no need to be hypocritical when y’all critique aew for doing that stuff
What’s the story?
finished
New Champ faces his first major challenge
>major challenge
What's major about it? All he's done is beat LA Knight a guy who's never held any titles in main roster WWE
He's a 2-time WWE Champion and a legend in wrestling in general. have a nice day.

So no story?
cody is a fighting champion and is trying to actually allow the roster a shot at the title now that its free from the absentee champ roman
So it's okay when wwe does it, but not aew?
>it's okay when it's not overused and has differing surrounding circumstance
Yeah
This is literally how half the major PPV title matches are set up in AEW. Bucks/FTR 4 being the most recent one.
This.

heatless? i don't think so buddy https://twitter.com/reigns_era/status/1786468796372333023
Fr*nch marks who pop for anybody in the ring don't count
AJ has always been the "new champ's first challenge" guy. he did it with Roman, Seth, and now Cody.
He is one of their best wrestlers, so yeah I can see why.
Wish AJ was a permanent main event talent. Hes been in the midcard domain way to long
He wants to be there. He's doing the Daniel Bryan thing except he actually elevated someone.
thats fair. Its just a bit annoying since he IS main event material. He should be wearing gold.
FIRST TIME EVER
AJ won a match to become #1 contender. They have several segments, one being tonight, building up the story. If this was AEW, this would be announced for Smackdown with no build or explanation.
This ain't a ppv worthy match to be fair. Especially with how predictable it is.
Backlash is basically "Wrestlemania lite". Usually every feud will have a repeat match at Backlash that noone truly cares about. Its a C tier PPV whose purpose is for a gentle decent from the WM hype into the Summerslam lull.

the excuse is the draft
what was GAYEW excuse? specially with the build of joe/swerve
kek just posted this one in the discord earlier too
Except it’s not and I’m equally uninterested in this as anything in aew because wrestling has been dimeless for twenty years
It is ok because they do it better. Highest grossing Smackdown and European expansion
>3-Star General Cody
>Washed as frick AJ
>Banger
AJ won the tourney against his rival, and Cody is the champion he's challenging.
But the e'cord said tournaments were heatless and dimeless
you’re a fricking pedophile
Speak up piggy. I can't hear you over your H1N1
It's not. Cody crybabies arent ready to admit their hero is boring and literally anybody else could be WWE champion right now.
Nope it's just as gay.
Lmaooooo. PiggEs are squealin oink oink loaers your ppv is trash
>shitting on AJ Styles and Christian Cage
This board is trash.
> ppv at 10am pacific
what is the point? is setting it in france important?
The most based thing about this ppv is that it's early in the day. Those are the best ones. You get together with your people, watch the show, and then you get to chill for the rest of the day
wwe and morning coffee are just wrong together. like shrimp and peanut butter or wednesday night and dynamite.
>or wednesday night and dynamite.
Yeah WWE should counter program them and try and run them off the ai--ACK

lmfao hey when your piggiEs can't afford to actually buy ppv's just keep feedin' em slop
>power worker like Kenny Omega or even John Cena in his prime
once in a while is fine
>banger
lol get ready for the *** general to march out once again
No story. No mission statement. No clue. Just fed slop.
No they're not, and the response you see from the vast majority of wwe viewers to this match shows you that
why are y’all wwe homies so mad lol?
it’s literally fine, just accept that op is right here, they even called it a fricking banger like lmao at least take that win. but it is a heartless match with almost no build and also with aj styles, who just lost at wrestlemania.

>it will be a banger
When is the last time either of these guys had a 'banger'
I wish wrestling fans would stop calling things a banger too. Nobody uses that phrase anymore. Only goofs that are streets behind.
>When is the last time either of these guys had a 'banger'
Last month. Sorry there weren't enough flips for you.
Last month where? The Cody match at Mania was an overbooked AE type match and no one remembers AJ vs Knight a minute after the bell
>mega star match in front of a liquid magma hot foreign crowd
kek AEW is literally in the swamplands, WWE can do their show 10 times better
