    >no way it can be sustained for too much longer
It has the US and Mexico so economically it doesn't have much reason for merging with CONMEBOL.
    >But it isn't as competitive.
True, but this also means countries like Mexico have a much easier time qualifying than if they were to play down here.
Also imagine the mess the qualifing format would be.

You'd be surprised the USA couldn't qualify for the Russian world cup as weird as that sounds.

On the one hand I want them to join conmebol so we’re forced to play better

On the OTHER hand, concacaf is so hilariously bad and such a meme that it circles around and becomes the most SOVLful tournament on earth.

I know times are hard but I know Conmebol ain't that poor.

i mean concacaf. monetarily theyre doing fine i guess (US, Canada and Minixico i guess, plus all the tax heavens and tourist trap countries), but knowing how bussiness work, eventually they'll want to grow larger and will probably want to tap into the huge south american market. not to mention how argentina and brazil are flourishing economies with a lot of potential for investment. the only thing that would prevent it would be the brazilian admins of conmebol wanting to keep doing bussiness the latino commie way (no growth, just a circlejerk of elites)

        >they'll want to grow larger and will probably want to tap into the huge south american market
Mexico definitely does not, they love their easy routes to the world cup. Hopefully north american teams in Copa America becomes the norm tho

true. maybe as sokkker grows in america and canada, and mexico keeps going down the shitter, theyll eventually lose whatever say they have in the matter. its bussiness after all and gringos will always prevail in that sense over mexico.

this. Yes, the South American market is big, but the US and Mexico have money. Look at the detritus of economies that most of South America has let alone its shitty haphazard leagues that rife with corruption, mismanagement, and a lack of professional standards.

why would concacaf want to "tap into the huge south american market"?
everyone here already has their well defined leagues and lets be honest outside of brazil theres no interesting sudaca market to explore
if anything it should be conmebol that would like to expand to the north american market

then explain to me why the constantly need tournaments in the US and Mexican teams in Libertadores for >reasons. If it wasn't for CONCACAF CONMEBOL would collapse.

They don't need to be there but of course they make more money and gays at the federation are greedy little rats. Conmebol charges tickets in usd to a richer nation and they don't have to deal with crazy fans fighting over who really won torneio da amizade in 1934

because more people would be interested in seeing their team play against a world champion than against a tax heaven island

i don't think they should merge at all. every team besides canada/mexico/us has africa tier infrastructure. there's no reason for them to be playing in conmebol. CONCACAF is ran by a canadian homosexual that relies heavily on Mexico/US to subsidize the carribean countries. The continental tourney itself is a joke with zero non mexican/american winners in the past idk how many years and even 2 years ago pumas who was in like 15th place in their league at the time got to the final.

as fun as that would be the chances of qualifying for a world cup goes down drastically for the entire region i would rather a club or nations league merger than a full one

as long as corrupt caribbean countries are holding us hostage no merger is possible. fifa needs to step in and let them become their own micro league (oceania)

I've talked about this over the years on this board but a Concacaf + Conmebol merger has potential to eclipse the European international and club tournaments.
    >USA and its latino pop. (50+ million, and not just Mexican immigrants) and Mexico are huge in terms of sporting potential. Conmebol had a very profitable tournament with the joint Copa America 2016 because of our demographics + dollar strength.
    >joint Copas just make more sense. Conmebol needs more teams since a 10 team tournament is bad and a joint Americas tournament is just common sense.
    >a joint Copa Lib also makes sense. LigaMX has historically done well. MLS is better now and close to LigaMX. Both leagues also have huge economic pull and can bring in more cash to the tournament, which will help with the pool of prize money.
    >with 48 team WCs, qualifiers have been weakened thus there's really not much of a point to sticking to old qualifying formats (Concacaf octagonal, Conmebol round robin). If you combine the world cup spots, you can still make a Conmebol-style round robin with two groups of 9 teams (more on this later)
    >Concacaf being weaker than Conmebol is obvious and a negative to South Americans. but it's largely exaggerated. USA now have a decent national team with a good set of players in Europe. Canada has gotten stronger and had good performances vs Croatia and Belgium in Qatar but lacked WC experience so were knocked out; they also have an actual superstar player in Davies and very good players in David and Buchanan. Jamaica is a dark horse and can improve with more recruitment from their diaspora in English leagues. Curacao have potential to recruit their diaspora as well. Mexico is at a low point but they will bounce back in a few years.
    >merging with Conmebol and increasing Copa prize money will also help the Jamaicas and Curacaos with recruitment because now they could entice some English or Dutch-trained diaspora players to play for them
    We need to merge. Now.

Combine Conmebol's 10 with Concacaf's 8 from the Octagonal and separate them into two groups of 9 by ranking. Round robin, home and away.

Top 4 qualify from each group or 8 direct spots to the WC. Teams ranked 8 to 5 from both groups will be put in a two-leg playoff bracket where they will have to face a team from the opposing group to qualify to Qatar. Teams that place 5th will face teams that placed 8th and teams that place 6th and 7th face the 7th or 6th placed team from the other group. Teams that come dead last in the groups will not qualify.

Hypothetical draw and standings of Concacaf + Conmebol qualifiers.

      >Group A
      >(1) Brazil
      >(2) Uruguay
      >(3) Ecuador
      >(4) Mexico

      >(5) Chile
      >(6) Costa Rica
      >(7) Venezuela
      >(8) El Salvador

      >(9) Honduras

      >Group B
      >(1) Argentina
      >(2) Colombia
      >(3) United States
      >(4) Peru

      >(5) Canada
      >(6) Paraguay
      >(7) Jamaica
      >(8) Panama

      >(9) Bolivia

      Playoffs

      (5) Chile vs (8) Panama
      (5) Canada vs (8) El Salvador
      (6) Costa Rica vs (7) Jamaica
      (6) Paraguay vs (7) Venezuela

Pros of this format: You can keep the competitiveness of the Conmebol qualifiers without having to sacrifice much in quality (USA is about the same strength as Colombia and Ecuador, Mexico Canada and Jamaica are same level as Chile Paraguay). You still give teams motivation for playing since automatic qualification is better than do or die playoffs vs another team.

Cons of this format: It is undeniably a bit less competitive than regular Conmebol qualifiers since Concacaf's bottom 4 aren't strong and qualification is easier (although that's more to do because of the stupid 48 team WC and not because of the merged qualifiers)

There are two flaws in your logic.
A merge would be extremely unpopular with sudaca supporters as in why the frick we are burdening clubs with more travel time to play in like bumfrick north carolina or canada against a team they never heard off.
Second is that the brazilian club calendar has not more space to fit in travel time or matches. They play every 3 days. The talks are about how we decrease the insane amount of games each club has through the year.

The counterpoint to my reasons is that conmebol is extremely corrupt and dominated by the argentines so if you throw enough money at them anything can happen.
