It's unbelievavable how pathetic UFC heavyweight is

>a light heavyweight legend several years past his prime bulked up to heavyweight by eating more McDonald's, beat the least terrible heavyweight fighter in 2 minutes and became the champ
>now he will smash a 41 yo former champion who's considered GOAT of the division even though he lost to a guy who would be a middleweight if he wasn't fat
>then he will retire and so should Stipe or he will end up like Silva
>so who will become the next champion? Gane who couldn't do anything against Jones besides a dickkick?
>the previous champ had the hardest punch in the world and not very much skills besides that
>he pissed Dana off to dodge Jones
Now let's go 15 years back
>a 45 yo guy was the champion
>he got knocked out by a pro wrestler

The action has always been better in the lower weight divisions anyway but you’re right about the current state of the heavyweight division.
Jones served out a doping ban whilst bulking up and there’s not been any focus on signing quality talent or nurturing it to the point the weight class is basically an afterthought. There really is very little difference between light-H and regular-H anyway that it would be just better to merge them to open up the competition more and bring life and movement back.

I'm not sure if deleting LHW would be a good idea. Some fighters would build enough muscles to succesfully compete in HW but others might end up not being able to bulk up enough without getting too fat or go for insane weight cuts from over 205 to 185.

        Anonymous

I look at someone like Pereira, who is a HW and it’s ridiculous to ask him to continue to cut weight when he looks a more natural HW than he did MW. LHW is a good compromise for him as he knows the HW division barely moves.
I get you though with some that it would be ridiculous to ask them to bulk up and then become too fat to the point it doesn’t benefit them but should they really be bulking in such a way that would impede them when they can just stay closer to their “natural” weight category

          >they can just stay closer to their “natural” weight category
If someone bulked up from 205 to 220-230 lbs, he would be forced to fight against significantly heavier and taller guys

Why he should stay in his lane.

There just needs to be a height cutoff is the thing
            Nothing below 5'6"

            >let’s divide the divisions by height instead

Most of the world's athletic heavyweights play team sports where the money is way better.

      Anonymous

There’s this too. UFC is well known to pay pittance money. On top of that you’re not very active either plus your time at the top or your peak is an estimate of 3 years. UFC knows this from analysis and lowballed offers of increased cash. So knowing that you’re not going to get cash there, why not go and do another sport like football which is obviously more cash rich and lucrative? Why bother with UFC which also isn’t nearly mainstream enough either.
Dana doesn’t nearly get enough shit thrown at him.

155 and below are the ONLY divisions worth paying any attention to. There are a handful of good 170 and 185 pounders at the very top (Izzy, Sean, Leon, Kamaru, Rob, and maybe Colby) and that's it. There is no such thing as a good fighter who fights above middleweight, it simply has never existed. Jones and DC are decent but not even close to good and putting Jon in "GOAT" conversations isn't even funny it's just blatant disrespect to all the fighters who take the art seriously enough to learn basic beginner boxing skills.

      >basic beginner boxing skills
homie, you're talking about a guy who used rule exploiting (no kicks to a quadrupedal), spinning elbow, flying knee, 6 types of kicks, including wheel kick and flying triangle choke in one fight. If he didn't have multiple positive roid tests, he would be obvious goat.

Fedor is GOAT heavyweight. Idc if he wasn't in Ufc at the end of his career, he was undefeated for over a decade with 90% of his comeptition being top contenders. It's unheard of to go that long in heavyweight.

He's up there along with Stipe and Werdum. 3 best MMA HWs ever.

        Anonymous

It's crazy how underappreciated Werdum is. In both MMA and jiu jitsu. I don't know if I'd say top 3, but how little his name comes up when talking about greats is insane.

          Anonymous

Yeah I agree. I have him in my top 3 personally since he ended Fedors huge win streak, subbed Cain to become HW champ, subbed Big Nog, knocked out Mark Hunt, etc. Werdum really beat a whole shitload of good dudes. And at times where people didn't think he could do it.
If someone doesn't have him in their top 3 Heavyweights, I get it. But he is definitely top 10 no exceptions.

You left out the fact that most people criticize Fedor claiming he didn’t face real competition because he wasn’t in UFC. He beat multiple UFC present-at-time champions meaning he would have been the UFC belt holder. Instead we got total destruction + the icing on the cake which was the matchups against 7 foot giants. Fedor was short like Mike Tyson but looked fat as frick. He could have cut down yet he decided to put 7 footers in arm bars, the balls on that guy. His brother rarely showed up to training and missed 50%+ of training, Alex Emelianenko. That guy was a talented freak who was lazy, the whole story is insane. Alex could have been the PFP best fighter ever in MMA if Fedor isn’t lying, which he isn’t the type to lie. Dude just got drunk everyday and showed up to fights drunk, hence the look on his face. Its Jon Jones frickery x100.

DC has no real losses on his records, jones cheated twice and stipe caught him with one foot out the door already
He's the most dominant champion in history and I'm tired of everyone pret
        ending he's not

          Anonymous

Yeah. JBJ's entire legacy is questionable simply because you know he's been cheating literally his entire career. I know the cazzie MMA meme is "B-BUT EVERYONE DOES IT" but it's just not the case. Unlike ONE where roids are basically required, UFC takes its anti-doping semi-seriously. Guys like Conor and JBJ will be seen as frauds within a few years. Steroid use is Black person behavior and deserves to be stamped out.

Not to mention DC actually defended both belts unlike other "Champ-Champs"

          Anonymous

Stipe literally fought DC in 3 of DC's last 4 fights. You credit DC for KO-ing Stipe but not Stipe for beating him twice? That's blatant favoritism. DC lost to Stipe twice and didn't defend the belt as much and also isn't a two time HW champ. DC is great but Stipe is the better fighter.

I don't even know why fighters bother to cut weight to fight at LHW.
LHW seems to be a harder division than HW for a while. Who was the last HW champion that could beat Jon Jones? Cain Velasquez when he was healthy?

      Anonymous

His leverage ratios as a topic are near meme status for a reason in that regard. Because of his height, and then longer than typical limb length to body, he's able to play the distance game at HW. This would not be the case for the average LHW. They'd spend most of the fight entering a danger zone just to engage, in a division where almost everyone has KO power. It's like everyone is Stefan Struve from their perspective. And that's not something they've probably spent a great deal of time casually dealing with in daily training the way very light classes might.

        Anonymous

Cormier and an out of his prime Randy Couture were HW champions. And they were both career LHW.

Sometimes I feel like prime Anderson Silva could easily beat any non-Cain Velasquez HW.

        Anonymous

Not necessarily. The main difference between LHW and HW is whether the fighter has genetic predisposition to fat retension or not, minus freaks like Lesnar. A lot of HWs are the same height as the LHWs, but just carry more muscle or fat. Majority of current HWs could cut and potentially even fight at MW, like what Pereira was doing.
