>Maybe this is just build up for an angle at Forbidden Door?
It's not, but they are leaning into it to try and make something out of it. The issue is that NJPW aren't gonna "win" at Forbidden Door so there's no resolution. Which means all the heat is going onto the NJPW office and people are just getting mad at them for being cucks (which also cannot have any resolution in Kayfabe)

I'll just say as someone who is new to wrestling and only started watching WWE in 2021, I wanted to branch out and see more wrestling, but I don't like AEW. New Japan is the only other company I could see myself getting into and following, but the AEW influence is everywhere, and I can't get into AEW at all. I subscribed to a month of NJPW World and I've been watching some of the older stuff. They've put on some pretty amazing matches.
Buddy, if you go into ANY period of NJPW's archive you'll immediately find much better stuff than they've got going on now. People b***h about Inokiism but even that period had feuds and matches that were electric.
I'd like to check some of it out. One thing I don't like about New Japan is that it could be more English friendly. Like at the very least I'd appreciate if they had English subtitles on the video packages that play before matches. But I went back and watched Wrestle Kingdom 9, and even though I didn't know most of the people, I liked it. And I didn't know Shinsuke had it in him. That was one of the best matches I've ever seen.
the problem is you only know WWE style. AEW is influenced by japan, not the reverse. AEW also has lots of lucha influence and the typical american slop.
AEW sucks because the wrestlers are dull, there are no storylines, and the stories they do have suck or they're ended in the dumbest ways. Plus, half the roster is indie shitters. Not that WWE is any better mind you.
aew is influenced by ecw, pwg, and roh you gigamoron. Big Dave let it slip (when answering a mailbag question) a few years ago that tony khan never watched njpw until the buzz for omega/jericho happened
Good on you for getting into wrestling. AEW is a blight on the fricking business and is poisoning New Japan from the inside. Don't listen to anyone who tries to tell you otherwise.
If you want some other good wrestling, check out Stardom. Yeah, the joshi worship around here is creepy as all frick. But they're good wrestlers and put on great shows. I'd argue they're the best promotion outside WWE right now and no one else is even close.
New Japan was better but it caught a nasty STD from crawling in bed with AEW.

Fricking hell bro. You're a little late. AEW is poisoning Stardom from the inside as well. It's also dropped like a rock in a pond thanks to the partnership.
Stardom IS New Japan as of now.
If it goes down, they go down together.
The way the company is looking, it won't last past 2025. By the end of the year worst case.
There was an anon that predicted that Tana would ruin his legacy by becoming President. I wish we listened...
Care to extrapolate?

Anyone with a functioning brain saw the writing on the wall in regards to lucharesu back in like 2012.

I don't hate the style of wrestling in AEW (for the most part) but I just find the storylines and the overall vibe to be pretty cringe.
