In real life but not for stand up, if you watch white stand up (black comedians are different), the comedian is always an outsider figure or a loser, in every funny story they lose or are the punchline. The Dane Cook style comedian is an outlier.

i guess a lot of sitcoms always relied around a doofus main character (usually dad), even the greats
seinfeld was unique because it was one of the first cases where everyone was just a complete c**t, and it worked for always sunny when they continued it
