I play almost exclusively fighting games and I’m one of the oddballs not playing on a PC. Maybe it’s the wrong genre to judge by but it does seem like there’s more pc players than console players or at least more than you’re giving credit to. And Fight Forever is a wrestling game which sits somewhere between sports and fighting games so I honestly think the stream charts are a good indicator of the games health.
No, that's a lie and it has never been top 50 on Xbox. Xbox players have never been able to find an online match. It takes about 1000 players to find a match easily as the PC version suggested when people stopped finding players when it dipped below 1k.
I think it's a fun little game, but I also got it for free (no DLC). I like the actual wrestling more than 2K, but the story mode is short and the customization is limited. It really does feel like Kenny and his huge fighting game bias had a lot of influence on the game, since it both tries to be a standard fighter and a wrestling game, but misses both audiences.

I've bought the game for my Deck when it was on sale. The good thing I will confidently say about it is that even though it has some errs, the gameplay's fun. Everything outside it ranges from meh to bad from lackluster gamemodes, not having tons of wrestlers outside of DLC (Where the frick's the rest of the rosters such as the other members of Dark Order and Butcher and Blade), lacking CAW, and etc.

i really enjoy playing the game. it is definitely for the n64 crowd, like they said it would be.

also the dlc is so poorly done that you got FTR in the first set, but they wouldn't come out together as FTR. you had to go into the settings and make a custom tag team, put them in it and call them FTR.
I'm in the same boat as you, playing it again after a long break to grind out Owen, the in-match gameplay is fun, but not fun enough to justify buying the dlc. They fixed the FTR thing, but that's about the only shit they've fixed. The new attire options are literally just textures reused from create an arena. I thought I could at least use the barbed wire one to make a 2001 Jericho but you can't even recolor it.

I think plenty got things right beyond it as far as controls go. The 2K games had a great setup back around 2K19 but they fricked around and remapped the controls to streamline them and then went and shit all over movesets by adding that stupid combo system that took away all control on how you get to do certain moves
Regarding momentum I even feel like the AKI games could get a bit lopsided. If you were down on momentum sometimes it just became impossible to flip things around. It was also a very easily exploitable system too between taunts and throwing people out of the ring. Running away when people had a special. Even just playing against the cpu if they had a shit ton of momentum all you had to do was constantly spam weak grapples and eventually it'd taped off
The AKI engine was brilliant. Still is. It's aged really well. But it's hardly unique all these years later and there's a lot that can be improved. Hell, honestly once they added that pin kickout meter in SVR2010 I think it was that's when the current games kind of overtook it for me. Something like that is far better than just having to blindly button mash in hopes something might happen

True. From what I've seen of this game though the matches do tend to go rather quickly. Granted it's not really aimed to be a simulation style but 5-10 is sweet spot for that versus 2-3
Arbitrarily dragging a match out against an already defeated opponent just to hit the same moves again isn't exciting. It's fricking tedious. Pinning as soon as you hit your finisher actually is exciting in wrestling games deeper than a kiddie pool because there's a fraction of a chance they actually kick out.

i really enjoy playing the game. it is definitely for the n64 crowd, like they said it would be.
but i haven't bothered to get any of the ridiculously priced DLC that they keep shitting out. i will wait until the devs are done with it and pick it all up for cheap.
also the dlc is so poorly done that you got FTR in the first set, but they wouldn't come out together as FTR. you had to go into the settings and make a custom tag team, put them in it and call them FTR.
I'm in the same boat as you, playing it again after a long break to grind out Owen, the in-match gameplay is fun, but not fun enough to justify buying the dlc. They fixed the FTR thing, but that's about the only shit they've fixed. The new attire options are literally just textures reused from create an arena. I thought I could at least use the barbed wire one to make a 2001 Jericho but you can't even recolor it.

a modern No Mercy would have online matches, 60FPS and some extra stuff to modernize it a bit but it wouldn't have 2 strike buttons for no fricking reason and wouldn't butcher the momentum like FF
I think plenty got things right beyond it as far as controls go. The 2K games had a great setup back around 2K19 but they fricked around and remapped the controls to streamline them and then went and shit all over movesets by adding that stupid combo system that took away all control on how you get to do certain moves
Regarding momentum I even feel like the AKI games could get a bit lopsided. If you were down on momentum sometimes it just became impossible to flip things around. It was also a very easily exploitable system too between taunts and throwing people out of the ring. Running away when people had a special. Even just playing against the cpu if they had a shit ton of momentum all you had to do was constantly spam weak grapples and eventually it'd taped off
The AKI engine was brilliant. Still is. It's aged really well. But it's hardly unique all these years later and there's a lot that can be improved. Hell, honestly once they added that pin kickout meter in SVR2010 I think it was that's when the current games kind of overtook it for me. Something like that is far better than just having to blindly button mash in hopes something might happen

True. From what I've seen of this game though the matches do tend to go rather quickly. Granted it's not really aimed to be a simulation style but 5-10 is sweet spot for that versus 2-3
the average match in FF is 3-4 minutes, the avg match in NM was 7-9, defend that
If you're good at No Mercy you can easily beat main eventers in a matter of minutes. I squashed Angle in like 90 seconds once.
Arbitrarily dragging a match out against an already defeated opponent just to hit the same moves again isn't exciting. It's fricking tedious. Pinning as soon as you hit your finisher actually is exciting in wrestling games deeper than a kiddie pool because there's a fraction of a chance they actually kick out.
