This. Bullshido but he seems to have genuinely believed his own bullshido to the point of attacking rivals Dojos to prove his Bullshido resulting in actual death.

He probably genuinely believed he was Spanish aristocracy and not a regular Irish mick from Chi-town too. Definitely had a screw loose but an important part of the 1970s martial arts explosion.

Fhite is full of kids, people who only just started training, or dorks who barely train and try to learn from anime and kung fu movies. So it couldn't if it wanted.

But Kung Fu is fake anons..

I mean that's kinda true and kinda wrong. Some Kung Fu can be genuinely practical but it gets mixed in with this inner kung fu stuff and the bullshido dim mak kung fu.
I feel like the lack of sparring has ruined it, that and also kung fu can be literally anything and is more of an umbrella term

We need a tryhard martial art full of tricks that work, but are completely impractical because nobody will ever be in a position to use them. Like slathering yourself with oil to make yourself hard to grapple, which works, but you can't compete in leit sports like that and you wouldn't have time to oil yourself up before a street fight either, so it's just completely pointless.

My Sifu had a kung fu school operating in Chicago at the time and the Black Dragon Society regularly talked shit and were general "we're better than you" types. Until it was all over and they all fricked off

Damn I really wish I had a picture of the Chicago Studio for you. Sifu showed us a ton of pictures once, but he opened the school in the mid 60's and it closed in the early 2000s. I've never met a student from the Chicago school besides Sifu's wife. At one time he had a school in Chicago, a school in Ohio, and school in upstate New York. But after financial trouble in the nineties and into the early 2000s, only the Ohio and New York schools survived. The only Chicago senior student who was a lifetimer, Lugo a 6'4" brick shit house of a puerto rican, moved back to puerto rico and runs a very succesful school down there.

You also have to understand that the chinese government banned traditional kung fu and imprisoned kung fu teachers for years. Modern wushu is a bastard mix of ballet and northern shaolin techniques. Wushu is designed to be ineffectual not combat practical. Traditional Kung Fu on the other hand is very practical and was used on a daily basis to fight and defend oneself, as well as wage open scale war for thousands of years. The biggest hurdle, is finding a legitimate inheritor of traditional kung fu who is actually able and willing to teach you genuine and practical techniques. There is not but one single kung fu instructor in my state who I recognize as actually teaching traditional chinese martial arts, in the traditional way. Everyone else have illegitimate lineage, and only shows the most basic of training and conditioning exercises to their students. I assume this is the same for other martial arts deisciplines too. I know some mcdojos where they teach "karate" but it's just some random moron with a couple katas he saw on the internet or out of a book. If they aren't a teacher through the Chin Woo Athletic Association, through Shaolin, or through Wudang/Laoshan; it ain't worth your money and you should stay away

I completely disagree with you on every point. The problem isn't the Chinese government or how it is taught. It's lack of pressure testing with actual fighting.

Western martial arts and combat sports have this aspect via full contact competition. It's why Muay Thai has remained an effective art and Wing Chun hasn't for example.

Chinese Martial Arts had this pressure testing in the past as they actually fought battles and used it to maim or kill people. It hasn't had this for generations.

Only Sanda does which is why the only remotely successful people at actually fighting who did anything CMA are Sanda practitioners.

It's got frick all to do with how it is taught or the CCP wiping out lineages. Kung-Fu stopped being used for actual fighting decades ago and is performance dance & cultural preservation now.

You can probably add Shiau jiao to that too but since it’s basically Chinese knockoff judo

Yeah, kung fu has been disconnected from practical fighting for a long time. I wish I could find it again, there was some quote from a Chinese police officer talking about the masters becoming obsessed with the beauty of the forms and not actually sparring or anything It was from like the 1920s/30s. At any rate, I found this footage of kung fu from the 1930s.

I remember a watching a video with Zhong Yunlong in it. The current grandmaster at Wudang. He said something to the effect of "Chinese Martial Arts today are weak because the people who practice them are weak. The Chinese people are too soft now (he blames western influence) and don't want to be uncomfortable. The old way of learning has been cast aside for expediated learning. People aren't allowed to fight like we used to be, so they never get challenged on their abilities and they pass on bad technique" I am paraphrasing like an hour long interview.

If you find good, old style Kung Fu schools there will be active sparring and body conditioning. There are good traditional Chinese Martial Arts, but there's more imposters and weak bodied try-hards than there's ever been. Even in China. Those kind of weak Kung Fu teachers are the ones Xu Xiaodong goes around fricking beating on, and good. Every fake master he beats down, Chinese Kung Fu gets stronger for it.

Do you have an example of a good traditional Kung Fu school or fighter? And isn't wudang doing the same wushu dance stuff as Shaolin these days?

Schools through the Chin Woo athletic association should all be held to the same standard. Any school that the Sifu has been been made a teacher through Chin Woo/Jing Wu should be teaching good Kung Fu.

Also yes Wudang has hosted the world Wushu tournament. But their Kung Fu has maintained a more traditional stance, even in the 60s-80s when Wushu was really being pushed hard. Master Zhong is a big proponent of teaching traditional Kung Fu in the traditional way. I have a short video of him doing some Liang Yi with some of his students. As opposed to Wushu. The movements are short, fast, focused on attacking the vital areas of the opponent, and the feet are moving for trips and falls. There are practical fighting applications in the movements. Wushu is essentially dance. Old guys like Master Zhong are the really some of the few in China making sure the old way is continued to be taught.

You also have to remember that Wudang is much more focused on internal arts like Tai Ji, Liang Yi, and Bagua Zhan. All of which are traditional styles that all have practical combat applications. They're just not styles that first come to mind when people think of fast traditional kung fu.

I always forget to mention this. But there are more than one school on Wudangshan. There's at least four proper Kung Fu schools operating there right now. So while the other teachers of the other Wudang schools recognize Master Zhong as a Grandmaster, his Taoist rank. He's not the guy in charge of all the schools.

Blaming the West is pure moronation. A hallmark of Western martial arts is hard conditioning and sparring, e.g. yiur average boxing and wrestling training.

It's because there is no competition from either actually fighting (due to China internally being relatively a peaceful society not actually at war since WWII) or sports full contact competition.

Without the pressure testing of competition of course people will get soft. All arts if they had t
competition removed would resemble pilates eventually.

The mistake with CMA was not transitioning it to full contact sports in place of actual combat during violent periods like the Thais did, and even the Japanese to a degree with Judo to eventually Japanese MMA and karate to Japanese kickboxing.

Sanda happened so relatively recently the damage was already done and CMA decayed to performance art by then.
