It was either let Cody go or re-sign Brandi and Cody together and make her an onscreen talent.

Someone has to explain this to me. It's the kids in the WWE audience, man.

If you think of it along those lines, everything falls into place and makes sense.
AEW basically has no kid fans, almost entirely jaded adults who rejected Cody's babyface gimmick entirely. But that sort of gimmick is exactly what kids love.

I'm happy for the Codester, he found the right place for himself finally. And luckily, they were smart enough to keep his presentation. The latter is probably one of the best booking moves in decades in retrospect. They could've repackaged him and ruined him entirely.

It's the Superman logic bug: boy scout characters got stale and the public wanted edgy anti heroes, but now edgy anti heroes are the norm and people actually need a boy scout good guy to be the contrast.

Nice guy. Good story telling. Rebuilt himself from Stardust to The American Nightmare on the indies. Started AEW as an anti WWE promotion then went back to WWE. Good build. Compelling story with Roman and Rock. Everything I am saying is subjective. If you don't like the guy, it's fine but the main event at Mania 40 is the biggest match in like a decade and will be hard to top for a long time.

People love to say he was a midcarder but thats arguably why the general audience likes him. People love when a guy climbs to the main event scene especially with a story like his

Presentation-wise, he's a perfect PR spokesperson great for WWE as a company and despite his promos being meh, people know Cody is a good guy. Everyone else in the business is a throw up whether they're good-hearted, Cody has pretty much proven it, he's never really got upset at anyone (except Disco Inferno) and even then that was more or less defending the employees in his own company.

History-wise, he's got a ton of it. He's had feuds with current WWE talent back from 10 or less years ago before he was fired. He works into a ton of NXT-original talent because of his dad, he works because his family never won the world title. He has a title chase that originates from a life-long journey that people can genuinely follow and you don't need to step outside of WWE to see the beginning of a decent chunk of it.

He's got numerous relationships with all different kinds of talent in WWE, whether that's general managers he would've had a good relationship due to his family name and his dad, whether that was wrestlers who also would respect him due to his father and family overall while also being a talent that earned his place (both going through developmental, main roster, getting fired, going to the indies and then coming back). Cody's probably liked by everyone in the Locker Room, he's done independents like guys such as Kevin Ownes and Zayn has done, he's proven he can be a decently important name on the independents like AJ was. He can work with anyone.
The important thing about wrestling is that you can present a talent to be more important than they actually are if you book them right and lean on the right strengths. They did this with Goldberg. Cody is easier to lean on, he's respected by a number of people. Booking-wise, no one will go into the business for themselves over in. You don't need to really worry him presenting himself incorrectly in public because he's good at PR. He's tried his own booking and knows what didn't work and what did.

He's a A player in an ocean of C+ and B, to put it in perspective 20 years ago Cody would have been in the high midcard with some stunts in the main event for triple treats, 4 way and the like but never alone or as the champ, but now the talent pool is so bad it makes him look like an S tier.
