He'll come back in 2026 (and score 0)

Arguably his greatest WC KO performance ever was in 2006. He really carried us that tournament while Figo was struggling.

2010 we got refballed. 2014 was shambolic all around. 2018 and 2022 we choked.

He always performed well in the Euros at least.

5 Euros played, zeroo Player of the Tournament awards. Same thing with World Cups. 0/5

He would have won 2016 if he didn't get injured in the final and those awards basically only go to finalists anyway. Him not winning doesn't mean he didn't perform well. Be for real.

the only reason portugal won is because rondildo got injured and subbed after 10 mins
after that you played like a team, and won it in extra time
if rondildo played the full 90 you would have lost

rondildo did nothing but intimidate and scream at his team mates to set it up for him to get a glorious goal. that's not how successful teams work. with his star power he put all his teammates under pressure to constantly pass to him or find ways to pass to him, instead of them being neutral and free to assess the situation and make the best decision for the team in the moment.
thats why you play like trash with him and you play like a proper fluid team wthout him.
he puts the other players under pressure to not make the best choice in each moment in play

you were lucky to even get to the final, you just about scraped through.
          >finished 3rd in a group of 4 containing iceland hungary and austria
          >finished with 3 points from 3 draws
          >in every other tournament before you would be out, but because of uefa's greed to earn more money through having more matches and more teams in the tournament, you disgracefully were given a lifeline and got through to the knockouts
          >...
          >drew with croatia in 90, but beat them in extra time
          >drew with poland, need penalties
          >beat wales (outright in 90 - literally your only proper win in the whole tournament
          >drew with france in 90, won in extra time
you played so fricking terribly the whole tournament because of rondildo's menacing (towards his teammates), only after he went off in the final did you become a smooth machine with good posession and good play. and still rondildo had to try to steal the spotlight by beaing the most obnoxous distractng cheerleader on the sideline

he was a great individual player, and hs best times were in teams where he wasnt top dog and had to follow orders.
in every team where he's been the de facto king, theyve played like shit.

Ronaldo 2012 was elite, More so with context.

        >Top scorer
        >Best performance in the tournament (Holland)
        >Hit the crossbar 6 (!) times in 5 games, Only luck prevented this from being GOAT level campaign
        >Garbage Portugal side, Hard carrying. Had no business being anywhere near the semi finals that year

My favourite moment of Ronaldo from 2014 was his free kick vs one man wall Lahm.

        go ahead.

There is a reason why Cristiano and Messi underperformed for 4 consecutives WC, and that is the number or matches played during the season before the event. They trained hard to be 100% physically at the end of every season because they were always almost head-to-head for the league or the champions league until the end of may (usually two weeks before the WC). When the season ended they were physically exhausted. Spain is the perfect example, they had two teams playing the CL final, semifinals and the league until the very end of may in 2014, they sucked at the WC, being outperformed physically by the netherlands and fricking chile. Messi joined PSG and he basically didn't give a frick about the team. He even faked injuries to skip matches to be 100% physically in december (half the season, not the end of it). You have to add that both had shit teams, messi (2010 and 2018) and cristiano (2010, 2014 and 2018). The difference is that when messi had great teams, he got his ass saved, while cristiano got benched and he was already old enough to dribble past my grandma.

or maybe international football is more defensive based and their NTs were not as dominating as their clubs were..... they always needed well oiled teams to show up, took messi to face a team like australia to finally score in the ko stage, then penalties and a tap in in the final.

I mean it's partially reasonable since for example before 2018, I recall Messi played like 50 matches between national cups, league and UCL for Barcelona.

Sure but he didn't perform that well either. He was above average at best.

They need to leave his ass home like Sweden did with Ibra. The team will play way better without immobile deadweight up front.

He is great player, no questions about it.
But Madrid back line spoiled him too much, unironically same with MU when Park, scholes control the game while him being a starboy.
