are ther scotsman and irish and welsh in the england team?

Kind of, yes. Saying it would be England plus Bale or whatever is overly simplified. Historically, the best Northern Irish, Welsh and occasionaly Scottish players would be courted by England if they had an English grandparent or whatever. Michael Owen, for example, was Welsh but had enough English family that he played for England. Jack Grealish is (I think) Irish. England tried very hard to get Bale as he has an English grandparent but he said no.
It works the other way, too. A good number of the Wales team are people who are English, living in England, but had a Welsh grandparent so declare for Wales because they aren't good enough for England. This bullshit would be stopped at least if they were just uk or gb or whatever

This being the case, I always wondered why Giggs didn't play for England. He could have, he had an English parent, and he was good enough to get in the squad. He seemed to have nothing but contempt for Wales, second only to his contempt for women and his brother

Yeah, uk is weird. I live in Wales near the border and my whole family is Welsh but the day I was born our hosputal was unusually busy so my parents were sent to one in England and I was born there. The next day we go back to wales and I've lived there ever since. That means I've got 100% Welsh family, never lived anywhere but Wales, but I was born in England and am therefore considered at least part English

Tierney is so far ahead of Robertson, it's not even close. Robertson is the biggest system babby in the world

I don't think the starting 11 would really look that much different from England's current one. Maybe Robertson but that's about it

do other countries find it cheating that the UK could potentially field 4 teams in tournaments?

      Anonymous

I doubt they find it cheating. But it is a bit weird. Imagine the US being able to field a team for every state.

        Anonymous

There's nothing about it, Scotland and England invented football and have been playing against each other since the mid 1800s.

Why would we stop doing that? Especially when we have our own separate leagues and competitions, again since the mid 1800s

          Anonymous

Sorry, I should have prefaced. I don't find it weird, but others might. Especially americans and the like. These threads are always made asking the same question "Why don't they join their NTs together" because people really don't know any better. Obviously stuff like the olympics was a one off and that won't happen again. Even if we host another I doubt the political landscape between the nations will be the same.

Why would they? 4 of them can never win anything and the one that can doesn't get the few good players from these nations.

It is cheating when nations that aren't independent sovereign countries are allowed to play official matches

Paddies are rightfully English. That's why all the grandaddies of the players moved here and still continue to do so.
